Im high on Biz, Mullens, and Hendo this year. Mullens looked nasty from 3, Biz looked MUCH better at rebounding, and Hendo (when he did play) looked like he had improved his ball handling.

Re: Final Preseason Stats and Observations
adding to what mrknowitall already posted today...
team fg%: 38.5%
team points/game: 88.9
team rebound difference: -5/game
team steals/game: 9
mullens 42.9%
gordon 38.8%
sessions 40.4%
walker 36.4%
henderson 38.3%
gilchrist: 31.9%
williams 27.3%
Final Preseason Observations:
* the offense is way behind the defense. dunalp talked about spending the majority of the preseason working on defense, so lets hope improvement is soon.
* the offense is almost 100% perimeter based. this team takes a lot of long jump shots. the guards and mullens are the only options on offense. except for the 1st preseason game vs the wizards we have not seen the team get to the line much.
* mullens looks to be the clear #1 option on offense. it would not be surprising to see him continue to lead the team in scoring. his 42% looks awful when compared to must big men, but when you compare it to the rest of the team, it looks good. mullens only attemped 10 free throws in 6 games, despite taking 77 shots in 6 games.
* kidd-gilchrist does not look anything like the player we saw in the one summer league game. is it possible that game was the fluke and what we are seeing now is much closer to what we should expect this season? there may be many games this year where the only point he scores will be from the free throw line.
* it would not surprise me to see this team among the tops in steals. it would also not surprise me to see walker, mkg and/or hendo in the top 10 in steals.
* tyrus appears to be marginally better than last season, but he is still not someone who can be relied on. he is still too inconsistent. he does not have a defined role on the floor. he has not found one area to make a consistent impact.
* defensively this team creates havoc which will result in a lot of steals, blocks and turnovers. it will also result in a ton of wide open 3s and many 2 on 1, 3 on 2 fast breaks for the other team.
* jeff taylor looks completely lost on offense. he does not look like a four year senior.
* diop looks much better. i don't see a ton of difference between haywood and diop. both players are solid defensively, both can rebound, both are invisible on offense.
* higgins and summers should not make the team. we would be much better off going into the season with only 13 players on the roster while looking to add players who get cut from other teams or saving those spots for some 10 day contracts later in the year.
* this team is desperate for at least one player who can score in the post.
* biyombo seems to be catching the ball better and does appear to have improved a little in offensive rebounding and free throw shooting. however, he will play less this year than he did last year and that is probably a good thing.
if i was guessing at rotations and minutes for the first month of regular season i would go with:
pg: walker (30) I sessions (18)
sg: henderson (18) I gordon (24) I sessions (6)
sg: gilchrist (22) I henderson (14) I williams/taylor (12)
pf: mullens (20) I thomas (12) I biyombo (10) gilchrist (6)
c: haywood (22) I mullens (14) I biyombo (12)
total minutes
mullens 34
henderson 32
walker 30
gilchrist 28
gordon 24
sessions 24
biyombo 22
haywood 22
thomas 12
williams or taylor 12
possibly a 10 man rotations with lots of switching of positions, some small ball - with hendo playing small forward and mkg playing power forward. not sure who is higher in the rotations, williams or taylor. eventually dunlap probably needs to pick one or the other and give them all the minutes, but it wouldnt surprise me if he splits minutes for both for a while making it an 11 man rotation. i could also see diop getting some of the center minutes, maybe 4-6 a game making it an 11 or 12 man rotation.

Re: Final Preseason Stats and Observations
Somehow, someway, BG must see at least 30 minutes per game so he can average over 18 points. The 'Cats need the Chicago Bulls version of him, not the Detroit Pistons edition.

the williams/taylor could go down, if hendo is able to hang at small forward, giving more minutes to gordon at sg.

Re: Final Preseason Stats and Observations
We are poised to suck really bad again, develop our young players, and end up with another really high draft pick + cap space. Just need to hang in there for one more year of misery and I think we'll begin to see this team rise.

Hey Cats fans, quick question from a visitor.... is Mullens really the number one option for you guys? I've seen two depth charts that don't even have him as a starter. Wouldn't he be behind guys like Haywood, Thomas, and Bismack, or am I just way out of the loop?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Final Preseason Stats and Observations
Had strong training camp, will be starting PF (maybe C against some team and in stretches of smallball). Number one option? Kind of, they already ran a three point play for last possesion in one possesion game (shut just after the buzzed, trey made) this pre-season. I guess it depends on who is he with on court but he is our only bigman able to score regularly. He stretchs the floor and has height to shoot over many defenders. Depends on how opposing team will play him, if they stay honest with him, slashers may take advantage, Kemba tends to go to like he is a first option sometimes regardless. But if there is a first option that would be Byron.
Edit: Just in case - his dnp were because of practice collison with Biyombo (knee) and they rested him till final pre-season game as a pre-caution. It is not like he was behind someone on depth chart or anything.

Re: Final Preseason Stats and Observations
Mullens, Gordon, Kemba, Sessions, and Hendo will all be relatively close in terms of FGA. We'll be a team without a steady #1 option

Observations? We need to be active in trades this year because it looks like we flopped on the draft. Time for the FO to wake up and start drafting talent instead of character in the future, because I could care less how well mannered someone gives a post game interview or how involved they are in the community if our games aren't worth watching.

Re: Final Preseason Stats and Observations
i think this team is going to continue to evolve significantly during the season, especially during the first several weeks of the season. maybe dunlap the new coach will keep the team focused throughout the season, and a lack of an end-season tailspin will keep the bobcats above 20 wins. if he doesn't, then it's more chaos and abject beatdowns bi-weekly.
