Green Bay Packers 'First Word'.

Post#1 » by upnorthfan » Thu Oct 18, 2012 11:41 am

Hey fella's,

As some of you know from the NBA forum, I do a little radio gig locally. I do high school football and basketball, and also co-host my own Packers show called "First Word". Here is a link to this months shows... http://www.1420thebreeze.com then go to audio archives. This is our 9th season on the air.

'Panther highlights' is our high school thang.

Thanx

I have a high school football question for you. How come teams that didn't qualify for the playoffs, like Marquette High and Greenfield, have games this week?

I dunno, I saw that too. My guess would be because everyone played only 8 games this season (for some reason) instead of the usual 9, maybe makeup games for revenue purposes? Just a guess.

I will find out and get back to you.

I guess teams who did not make the playoffs had the option of playing a 9th game if they chose to do so. Hope this helps.

I hate that HS football starts 2 weeks before school starts. The whole 8 game season sucks too. The WIAA "fixed" a problem that didn't exist. Not unusual for them.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Totally agree. One non conference game and on to conference play? Thats not good. It doesn't allow teams much of a chance to play outside their own conference.

The WIAA cited injury concerns for a shorter season and they said they wanted more of a gap between football and winter sports as the reason for starting so early. But practice started August 1 for most schools, that sucks. And having non playoff teams play a meaningless games while the playoffs are going on is kind of weird too. Like having a Rams/Browns game during wild card weekend.

Thinking back on the first game of the year there were no bands, no hoopla, and if I am not mistaken, no cheerleaders (I could be wrong on that one). Point is, the normal pageantry associated with a HS game was non existant because school hadn't started yet.

If anyone has a team in Division III, you may want to check out our High School post-season football show this mourning. Plymouth is a team to be reckoned with.

It seems to be a mix. For instance I see Franklin and Arrowhead are higher seeds and both host games. But I see other cases where the lower seed is hosting. Makes no sense. I can't imagine there would be conflicts where the fields are being used for something else. Higher seed should always get the home game.

I was looking at D2 and all of the lower seeds except Marshfield are hosting.
