I'm sure the Celtic GB fans would make a big deal out of this win and forget the word - pre-season...

contest a shot? just an idea.
this team has such a loser aura to them. dont get me wrong, we are way to talented to not be good. we'll win a ton of games. but with this coach and this attitude i cant see us overachieving.
What the hell are you talking about. Jesus. It's one damn preseason game. I didn't hear you saying this type of nonsense when they won their first three. Get off the ledge a bit.

Boston fan here, I come in peace.
Just wanted to stop in and say that although tonight isn't going that great (it is the preseason so who cares lol) I think you guys will be a force by the time the playoffs come around. Probably struggle a bit against the better teams early on while your team gels and gets better chemistry, but I don't think anyone will want to see you guys come april.
Good luck this season and I look forward to a good race with you and that other team from NY for the division.

The D-leaguers playing like the starters, oh how surprising.

Deron's scoring efficiency is a serious concern for me. I don't know what happened from his Utah days, but he better not shoot in the low 40s this season. He had an excuse last season but he was pretty bad during the olympics too (FG% wise) and even in preseason, his FG% has been really poor.

Good news is that Lopez is proving he can rebound when he wants to, and Teletovic looked much better on D (still a long way to go overall).
Bad news is our chance at a 104-0 preseason/regular season/playoffs record is no longer a reality.

Hey thanks!
I didn't watch most of the game but from the part that I did see, I saw a lot of confusion. Throughout all of the games so far, our bench has more fluidity and better pacing than our starting unit.
I think every team goes through it when they through a bunch of players together. We're trying to figure out how to play together and it's taking sometime to get this engine running. We have enough talent to beat bad teams, but in order to compete with the good ones, our starters need to develop a system/routine and really stick to it.

To me joe has been terrible. Haven't seen anything impressive from him.

Deron looks a bit indecisive with this team, you can tell there's still a lot of chemistry to be developed from our starting 5.
Sometimes too many passes, sometimes not enough passes (although never a result from selfishness).
Honestly, now that Dwight is out of the East, Deron should be the best player in the Eastern conference not on Miami (especially with Rose injured), hopefully he embraces it and has a huge season.

I think we'll be fine, just some stuff to iron out in terms of chemistry, which will come in time.
But I think going with Wallace as the starting 4, or starting Tele over Humphries, is the best way to go offensively. Like Kerr said during the game, Wallace plays better as a 4, with his quickness advantage, and with him at the 3, we don't have much spacing.
As a 4 though, him or Tele will provide better spacing and he'll pull a big man out of the paint. That way, we'll have shooters all over the place, and more room to operate inside.
Or if Wallace can become a more consistent shooter, that would be great too.
It's easy to point out all of our flaws in a pre-season game when we played horribly, but honestly, we just missed a ton of makable shots (including layups), and we didn't try at all until the 2nd half. Overall, we should shoot better and give a better effort on defense, and we'll be fine.

I'm a little concerned about Deron. He doesn't even seem to care for the sloppyness. He started the game with 3 turnovers off passes from the halfcourt line.
I just didn't understand that.

We started the game not caring at all, while the Celtics treated it like a regular season game. We made a lot of careless passes, and they capitalized on them. We didn't actually give the effort I'd expect in a regular season game until the 3rd quarter.

Celtics definitely came out pissed that they lost to our backups the other night.

i'll tell you what I think happened. he went from one of the most proven, consistent, structured offenses in NBA history to... us. we haven't had an offense since he's been here, and i still don't believe we do. yes, it's early, but there's no sense of the end game with our starters. they're just trying stuff out there. sometimes high pick and roll, sometimes iso brook or joe, a lot of useless downscreen action which never opens anything up for us but is an easy and consistent method for our opponents to get wide open looks. no one has any sense of when or if to cut through or spot up, where a teammate will be at any given time, when to put up a shot so we don't get run out on... in terms of xs and os, and this is on both ends, i believe we have one of the worst coaching staffs in the NBA. when you think about the level that the boston assistants, thibodeau, adelman, popovich, etc, think about the game, and compare those type of guys to our group, it's really disconcerting. we have to bet on talent figuring out, because i have no faith that coaches like avery and carlisimo and popeye and elie are going to be capable of successfully troubleshooting anything.

then again it's preseason and everyone's new to everyone else and maybe im just letting my pessimism from previous years cloud my assessment... but from the two games ive watched out starters play, i really dont like where were at.

It's never as bad nor as good as it seems in preseason.

I think you're absolutely right about what you said in the first paragraph. Don't doubt yourself lol.
Every time we see the starting 5, they seem really discombobulated. There's so much indecisiveness as to who to give the ball to and when to pass or shoot, when to set screens and roll, etc.
The Celtics have been playing the way they played for years. It's well-oiled machine right now.
While I do believe Avery to a certain extent that they were treating it as a preaseason game, the look of fluidity from the starting unit is concerning to me.
I know they preached for having versatility but it's also been proven that if you give someone too many options to choose from, they tend to not choose at all because the number of options is too great to consider. Hopefully, they will treat one of these preseason games and run it like a regular season game simulation.
Personally, I'd like to see more consistent structure on offense. .
The go-to play should be feeding Lopez in the low post. When teams adjust or Lopez is ineffective against the defense, they should decide to a run a backup go-to play, that has Joe coming off a screen where he'll either be open for a shot or choose to attack the paint/post-up. And then if that doesn't work go to play, #3 and etc.
Right now we're just trying a whole bunch of different crap and seeing what works best. Well, offensively, nothing looks real good right now and therefore we should start a pecking order of plays, so the guys can get used to and better at executing them.
Although, I'm kinda glad that we lost by 30. We were 3-0 but we weren't playing like an undefeated team. This should serve as a kick in the pants to the starters to show how far they need to go in order to really challenge the Celtics.
