hm. whether the US being an ally to israel is not the issue. the issue is that israel is in a tense state because iran has "raised" its threat of a nuclear weapon recently. if you have any knowledge of the history between israel and the rest of the middle east, youd know that iran having nuclear weapons is a serious issue for the people of israel. the prime minister, bibi netanyahu, recently went to the UN and basically said, once iran reaches a threshold of nuclear capability, israel will have to react accordingly. he tried to get obama to meet with him regarding the issue and obama instead chose to go on The View (there was a whole issue about this but thats a different discussion). theyve talked on the phone numerous times about it but obama has remained neutral and will not react to the current iran/israel conflict, or rather, netanyahu's demands of a reaction from the US.

really, israel being advanced in military technology is also a non issue. i believe it was the minister of defense ehud barak who stated that while israel would surely come out on top in a conflict with iran, it would not be in the best interests of israel to do so. or something along those lines. basically israels military strength is not really the issue, but rather a conflict with iran, which could involve nuclear weapons, would not be beneficial to anyone involved.

its imo a pretty complex issue that goes beyond military strength or alliances.

also fwiw i dont think any US president in our entire history has acknowledged Israels claim to the west bank, which is a pretty significant issue that the US, along with most of the world, has not accepted.

SlavaMedvedenko wrote:Then comes the major issue of having an embassy in Libya, a country without a democratic rule in the first place. US supported the uprising against Gaddhafi and the lawlessness eventually strengthened Islamic terrorists' presence in the country, which ended badly for the US in the end.

also a pretty big issue, as is Syria, and to a lesser extent Egypt.

also disagree that it is that simple.

for the US they have to consider whether it is in their best interest for an Islamic republic to rise up out of a democratic system, or an autocratic type government which provides stability to the region. sometimes security is more important than liberty to people.

and these are all issues i feel like obama is better equipped to handle than romney.

sorry but the last thing i wanted to say was this is not something that the president controls really. actually, im not 100% sure on it, but im pretty sure the president has little to no say as far as where we send military aid to. im almost sure thats entirely up to congress.

just met my temporary MS adviser. he told me I can skip some courses since I had high grades during my undergrad and he plans on pushing me to finish earlier as planned. told me to go back to him before enrollment to get the recommended courses.

then, I'll be starting with my new job next week.

so much good happening. I can probably win the lottery at this rate. I can probably deal Battier in exchange for Lebron in our fantasy league. I can probably reach my elbow using my tongue.

tell me you did the last part. 8-)
