Where Will the Game Evolve To?

Post#1 » by KyletheDingbat » Fri Oct 19, 2012 12:14 am

I think if we got a snapshot of basketball in 50 years it would blow our minds.

The two handed shot will become obsolete, thought of as how we now think of the set shot. Players will shoot one handed, and be ambidextrous with it. This will open up so many offensive situations where before a shot would be impossible or ill-advised. I think shooting fundamentals will be emphasized only on the scale of your wrists and fingers, not how straight your elbow is, and players will be able to hook, overhand, underhand, even behind their back in cases, with accuracy. This will cause a spike in drafting players with large hands.

If this happens, it will be interesting to see how the defense responds, as it would be nearly impossible to tell if a player is shooting or passing.

I also think players will develop post games behind the three point arc.

What do you think?

This will happen because David Stern will implement a new rule stating that one hand must be at your side at all times as to not throw any accidental elbows

Not sure if serious...

A one handed shot simply isn't as accurate. Trying shooting with one hand, it completely throws off your...balance. It does feel like a shot anymore, but more of a throw or a flick.

As for a postgame beyond the three point arc........... :-?

The game didn't evlove from the set shot because players magically got better, it was because they learned a better way of doing things.

Being able to post from the three point line and be ambidextrous with one handed shots from all over the floor would require a ridiculous level of talent.

Unless we're going to start breeding basketball super soldiers, this is not going to happen.

I bet if this discussion was had about 20 years ago (I'm sure it was), people than would of said the same thing about players of the future which are the players today. In a way we have been "breeding basketball super soldiers" over the course of many years. it's the natural progression of the sport

lol had no idea that game existed.

If you put Lebron back in 1950 people would think he was science fiction. It just takes one player to drastically change the game. If a guy comes along with great hands, coordination, instincts and creativity he could take the game places we never imagined. It just seems to me that an ambidextrous, one handed shooter could be an unbelievable asset. If he comes along, a lot of other guys will try to mimic him. I mean, think of the scoring possibilities... it'd be awesome!

If you think I'm nuts or disagree or whatever, fine, where do YOU think the game will evolve to? What crazy heights can we reach?

I used to play that when I was 10. The power ups and exploding basketballs would be a great idea.

I agree. In fact, why stop at hands? Shoes will no longer be worn because future Ray Allens will be draining 3's with both feet. The genetically altered tongue will become a major part of the game as steals will no longer require using just your hands. And with the explosion of the penis-modification industry, dribbling will become an artform of 3 whirling limbs. But the best part of all this is that people will be able to watch the action on the assfault with their pets.

more likely than one handed shots is players becoming ambidextrous shooters. you already see some of the games biggest talents shooting with their offhand to get around the defense at times, who knows in 50 years, it may be commonplace and an expected part of the skillset for shooters.
