Fwiw, the bench really isnt bad. Its not like in the reg season or even the playoffs that the bench will be on the court as a whole unit anyway. Meeks hit a few good shots, Duhon looked active on D, Blake hit an open 3, overall they looked good enough to back up the starters. In the end if this team just focuses on detail and not have stupid passes like Kobe did and stays healthy Miami is their only roadblock.

Overall after watching this game I'm feeling pretty good. I definitely saw a decent amount of sloppiness and areas where we haven't fully got the system or the synergy down, but you could definitely see how deadly the team will be once we have those points down, and now we have all the rest of the pre-season + the whole season to have it locked down for the playoffs.

Hopefully in the next game Mike Brown plays the combinations of starters and bench players that he will be using this season, I never want to see those guys out there without at least 2 starters.

Crazy to think that Dwight's still not even in game shape yet.

Hope you don't mind a bit of Trolling...

Laker guard play is going be a big problem...mostly defensivly. Laker guards have been on the slow side for a while....but this year it's really going to be a problem. Nash is a problem defensively and so is Kobe...guards like Thornton from the Kings will eat the lakers up all season.

Lakers will continue to dominate down low....Dwight and Gasol....awesome. But in a long season with Nash and Kobe taking the minutes...and with a very weak bench....I think the Lakers find themselves being beaten by "weaker" teams all too often.

The Lakers always get beaten by weaker teams. They just don't get up for those games so it's really nothing new.

Regarding last nights game, you can see the type of potential this team has, especially defensively. I thought our starters played long stretches of absolute lock down defense and that's a great sign. Howard does a great job of erasing people's mistakes and as the team gets in sync and communicates better our defense is going to get downright nasty. Once our offense gets synced up then we'll also eliminate some of those transition opportunities that Sac got off of turnovers and missed shots in general. I don't mind all those perimeter shots that Sac was making yesterday. Those are the same shots that stop going down in the playoffs when the stakes are raised.

The bench is going to be a concern all season long so it'll be interesting to see how Brown works the rotation. Others have mentioned it, but I think Nash needs to play as many minutes as possible with the 2nd unit. With them he can speed up the pace and do his usual paint probing that leads to all sorts of open looks.

This would be my ideal rotation:

1st/3rd Period:

PG: Nash (6), Blake (6)
SG: Kobe (10), Meeks (2)
SF: Metta (8), Ebanks (4)
PF: Pau (8), Hill (4)
C: Howard (12)

2nd/4th Period:

PG: Nash (5), Blake (3), Nash (4)
SG: Meeks (5), Kobe (7)
SF: Ebanks (5), Metta (7)
PF: Hill (5), Pau (7)
C: Sacre (5), Howard (7)

That essentially gives Nash the keys to the car for a solid 5 minutes to start the 2nd after a nice rest, then midway through we rest him for a few minutes so that he can finish the 2nd/4th strong. Blake can simply act as a spot up shooter and allow Kobe/Pau to run the offense while he's on the floor so that hides his biggest weakness which is actually having to create.

... and yes, I left out Jamison. The guy sucks and has for a couple of seasons now. There is really no reason for him to play ahead of Hill or Sacre.

I just realized that we're the only team in the league that hasn't won a preseason game... lol.

I really like this minute distribution. Jamison is still going to get minutes though. I don't mind him playing more as long as he can find his shot.

Jamison will play, whether we like it or not

It's really futile to make scenarios which exclude him out of the rotation or wonder if he'll play SF or PF
He will play,at least at the beginning, that's for sure
