MKG preseason thoughts?

Post#1 » by snaltonj » Mon Oct 22, 2012 1:12 pm

Was anyone impressed by MKG's preseason showing. I am losing all hope as I didnt see anything that made me feel like we made the right pick. Anyone else feel this way?

hes not exactly someone thats going to thrive playing five 4 minute stretches in meaningless games. dunlap seems to be keen on bringing him and JT along slowly.

No one saw anything that made them feel like we made the right pick.

The games were not on TV.

he is not getting enough minutes....he is young and playing him 10-15 mins a night is not doing him any favors. even if he is playing poorly he should see at least 25

I thought MKG played well in the first 2 preseason games versus the Wizards & Hornets, averaging about 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assist, and 2 steals in 28 minutes per contest before it seem like he ended up in Dunlap's doghouse, never to see more than 20 minutes again. He also played decent in sporadic moments in the one televised game that I did get the chance to watch against the Pistons on Saturday too. My thesis on what appears as if he is struggling is that he's not getting enough time on the floor. I don't know what's going on behind closed doors, but I'm not really worried about MKG not panning out skills-wise.

i think obviously all of us were hoping to see something a little closer to what we saw in summer league when he just like the best player on the floor, by a mile, and that was playing next to kemba, biz, mully and taylor.

i do think its weird that his minutes have been sporadic, at best. not sure what dunlap's plan is, but i am sure there is a plan. dunlap doesnt seem the be the type just to randomly do things.

i was hoping to see a few more rebounds and a few more trips to the FT line, two areas that i believe MKG could dominate from day one.

more than anything, for once, i just wanted to see a bobcats rookie explode onto the national scene and get attention from the first week of games. the media latches on to players and teams who have fast starts and it would be fun to have a bobcats in that mix for a change. it seems all our rookies sans okafor have had really slow starts to their careers.

I haven't been bothered by the minutes, but maybe I'm the only person that thinks everyone in the FO sees MKG as the only surefire starter right now. Preseason is about gelling when you're playing for something more than to not be the worst team in the league again, but for teams like ours, you use it to evaluate fringe roster spots and tinker with lineups. I fully expect MKG to start and get around 30mpg or so most nights.

That's what I was thinking. I was hoping to see MKG get more minutes, but I can't fault them for figuring out who will start or not. Who else would start at the 3 but MKG? I can see us trying Sessions, Gordon, Hendo at the 1, 2, and 3 for a few games, but that's isn't going to do anything but hurt us against any team with bigger wing players.

I am more afraid of Dunlap being a Vincent/LB hybrid with his rotations than MKG being a legit bust. if that makes any sense

Dunlap is starting to scare me as well. Like most coaches in the beginning he said all of the right things, but I haven't seen much improvement from him as a coach yet throughout the preseason. It's still too early to past judgement. It looks like we may have to fire up the the old Summer League slogan of #FreeMKG for the regular season.

Way too early to draw any sort of conclusions.

I'll say that:

Pre-draft
Looked like a project/young
Good defender
Good athlete
Questionable size for SF
Hideous jumper
Good Bball IQ

Summer League/preseason:
looks like a project still
Good defender but sometimes too aggressive due to inexperience
Better athlete I think
Size is fine for SF
Hideous jumper
Good Bball IQ
Better handle than I thought.

I think he's rawer than a lot of people thought he'd be but I'm fine with that since we're a rebuilding team and I think he has the talent and ethic to reap the draft rewards. I can't say with any confidence he was the BPA for us, only hindsight will tell. He can play ball, he just has to adjust to the NBA level, I expect a gradual if quiet improvement all year long. It'll be hard for him to bust out and be the best he can be b/c we are such an awful team (similar issue plaguing Kemba, Biz, Mully, and JT).

But if Drummond (and Leonard) look like studs and we don't draft a dominant big next year I will personally firebomb the entire FO.

at least we drafted a project we knew was a project.....normally we draft a guy thats like 25 thinking he is a finished product and he is still a project. that said #freeMGK

Yeah guys. Chill out. A lot of times regular starters don't even play in pre-season games. Preseason is all about coaches seeing what they got. MKG is a player. He has shown that every time he has gotten minutes.

The Lakers don't even have a preseason win. That right there shows you how important coaches view the preseason. Every expert expects MKG to be a star ... one day, but not right away. All of us hoped that MKG would burst on the seen like a mini Lebron James, but that was not to be rationally expected. We all knew that his jump shot was a major work in progress.

That being said I'm sure everyone wants Muhammed next draft since he is very flashy, but Cody Zeller is going to be a stud this year. Don't rule him out.

I would not cry about landing Zeller number two, but if we get the number one pick we got to get the Bazz. The last time I saw a kid that smooth one on one in a high school game my team ticked me off by trading him for Vlade Divac.
