Jays claim Dave Herndon off waivers

As i we didn't have enough guys recovering from Tommy John surgery, we now have Dave Herndon as well.

Maybe this qualifies us for a discount from Dr. Andrews, you know, frequent surgery points.

I know nothing about him. Seems like AA is either stockpiling some potential "fillers" for the minors for next season in case another rash of injuries occur, or he's stockpiling "fillers" for the minors in case of a big trade featuring some prospects. Or... he just thinks claiming players is fun.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.

AA seems to be going for the quantity over quality approach this off season.
I'm not liking this so far.

Stockpiling Buffalo until the GM meetings and free agency kicks in. I hope people didn't expect us to sign a #1 pitcher and Josh Hamilton by now.

If we don't have a coach, we should probably wait until we hire one to get his input on player pickups anyways.

And if we don't have a coach, why would any top free agent sign here.

I actually ran into AA this morning, and wanted to ask him some questions. Unfortunately, he was too busy finding the Blue Jays next big signing to speak to me...

certainly not you posting anything intelligent... rosters must be filled on more than just the major league level, but I am sure you already knew that.

Herndon looks like a potential Shawn Camp type. Not bad.

That is great!

I am an AA supporter, and I have barely used emoticons - but this is pretty funny.

Yeah this grab as much cheap talent and see what sticks strategy is not a solid way to build a winner. Its time to spend money, either by FA or trade. After the disaster of this season and the off season so far, AA better not assume the 2013 attendance will match the 2012 level which was unexpected and primarily fueled by the successful spring training and the slow starts of all the AL East teams which kept them in contention for the first couple of months even though we were barely at .500 before we took the free fall.

If AA doesnt make some major moves this winter then I see interest being markedly lower for 2013. The old "we are only 1 or 2 years away" excuse is way past its shelf life.

dumpster diving is right. We'll see what happens after the World Series plays out. AA needs to make some big trades or free agent acquisitions otherwise there isn't going to be much incentive for ticket sales.

You guys are too much. We can't make any big moves until the season is over and we have a coach.

good thing gives us time to fire Alex before such changes are made. The Herndon system doesn't work.

AL EAST here we come baby!! In all seriousness, let us just wait until a couple of months to see what Alex does before we throw him under the bus. Frankly, the excuses to not spend any money have run out. Rogers need to open up the chequebook to show its fans that they are committed to bolstering this team's pathetic record (injuries or no injuries) of 2012. The fans are tired as well. It has been 19 years of no meaningful baseball games in September! That is a damn shame considering teams like the Rays with a much lesser payroll have at least allowed their fans to tune into baseball games the month of September the last several years. I do not want to hear no excuses from AA, Rogers, or media shills like Mike Shillner, make excuses for this team if they do nothing meaningful again this offseason to bolster the pitching staff and the starting line-up.
