I know some people are going to take a lot of offense to this, but I swear we have the most stupid fanbase out of all fanbases.

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter
Mike Brown knows the offense would look prettier right now by just having Nash run screen/roll, but team needs to get used to running the O.

It is the preseason for goodness sake you knuckle heads, Mike Brown knows he can run pick n roll all day with Steve Nash, however they are trying to implement a new offense. The only way to implement a new offense is to practice it, the Lakers are more concerned with the long term rather than short term. If that means loosing all their preseason games, well hell with it but you guys really need to stop complaining because it is beyond annoying, and it makes our entire fanbase seem week because there is a bunch of fools out there complaining about our record in the preseason. I'm sorry I had to sound so harsh, but there isn't 30 minutes that goes by the day and a thread isn't created on a Laker forum complaining about this new offense and how it is under utilizing Steve Nash blah blah blah. When the Triangle offense was first implemented, it was noted how long it took the Lakers until January to finally understand the offense. I will post the quote again from Mike Trudell which was a relayed message from Mike Brown, and hopefully this is the last time (which I doubt , because majority of our fanbase is beyond stupid) I will hear any crap about the Princeton offense.

this offense has triangle sets in or whatever that the coaches said would help the players since it is similar to what they were doing, if that's the case then run the friggin triangle

granted preseason but offense looks like last year, the guys have no clue

Kilroy wrote:Phoenix running is historically how the team worked and was built for Nash... Maybe that evolved as their talent changed, but we can't play the way they did no matter what talent they had. We've got 3 other all-stars in the starting 5 that all have their preferred places in a half-court set to work from, and need to be fed accordingly. It's not a get open and Nash will find you kind of situation.

The ball almost always starts in his hands, it's Steve Nash that passes the ball away. It isn't just a matter of telling Nash to hold it more, it's a matter of the offense finding their rhythm and everyone working the way they should.

Let's face it, with our talent, Nash's first pass is going to be the last time he touches the ball a lot of the time. This offense isn't set up to have the ball ping back and forth to the PG until something opens up. It starts at the 1 but then the whole team facilitates it. Kobe will be feeding the post, so will Pau, etc... Nash will get it back but just not as often as he used to.

The beauty of the system is that it takes advantage of the fact that we have at least 3 world class distributors in Kobe/Pau/Nash... The trade-off is that we won't get as much of a show from Nash.

But with Dwight blocking shots, maybe we'll get out on transition a lot more so Nash can run the break with Kobe...

Metta is the only place where I see the need for a significant change... I think he's a little TOO comfortable in the Princeton... He needs to play a sort of modified Ray Allen role for us... He needs to move WITHOUT the ball and find his spots, occasionally posting someone up... But with Dwight, Pau and Kobe, he really should only be in the paint when the offense starts to break down.

Good points.

why can't we force nash to simply do a quick PnR EVERY TIME at least once he's got the ball??

nash holding the ball and passing without creating anything is a giant waste of his passing ability

The more I see it the more I hate it. The Princeton was not made with teams like this one in mind. Its a waste of our guys talents. Dwight at the high post dribbing in from the FT line? Metta running around the perimeter?

Scrap this nonsense.

Seriously wtf? Anyone can bring the ball up then swing it around. That's a job for Steve Blake, not Steve Nash

Coming from a Mavs fan, I can honestly say your guys' new offense is BAD.

Too many passing leading to turnovers.

Real ugly basketball tonight even for a preseason.

Bunch of you keep echoing how much you don't want Metta handling the ball.

I've seen a bunch of the preseason games, and he isn't. Unless he's out with the second unit, he spots up, finds the open guy or takes uncontested drives.

What's the issue then? Know something I don't, or just not watching the games?

The offense is going to work, we'll struggle for a month and a half, but the other thing is that the Lakers aren't running it to it's truest from either. Guys keep looking for the "back cuts" in the offense, but NBA coaches and defenses can pick up on those cuts like ants to sugar. We need the offense only for it's spacing.
