Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
I was actually able to get home from training, avoid spoilers and find a legal replay of this event. Just now caught the Richman and Alvarez fights. Both went as I hoped they would.
Going to go shower, eat some dinner, then maybe try to watch some other main card fights before bed. Also gotta make my ufc picks at some point. Harder than I thought when I skimmed the list earlier today.

Respect for that guy who fought Fabiano. Forget about not tapping, it takes a real man to keep full back hair like that. Buncha fastidious pussies waxing all the time. Russian guy not gonna listen to some Cali homo trend-setter.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

I really wish I had gone to this event.
Did anyone actually make it Windsor?
Kick myself. Great card.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
Well, Minakov is debuting the next time Bellator returns to Ontario, Nov. 2nd, so that should be another fun card for people from that area. Minakov alluded to being part of the HW tourney mix still, so he'll either be a replacement for Queiroz or Santos, who were injured in the quarters, or he'll be on stand-by in case there is another snafu like if Big Monster misses weight again. Either way, I'm eagerly anticipating his arrival.
Speaking of that November 2nd card in Ontario, it looks like Paul Daley won't be appearing afterall. They couldn't find a viable opponent for him so he won't be back in the circle until the next WW tourney in January/February. I for one am not bothered because the rumored fight for him was just a squash match.
This week's card I'm pretty skeptical of them keeping the momentum going from last week. Bellator has a solid LW division, but they held many quality guys to make a good first impression on Spike. Clementi in a main event in 2012 against a prospect debutante? That's really pushing it. That's a showcase for the 20-0 Sarnavskiy, but belongs more to kick off a main card than to close it out. Next week should be tight though...Koreshkov-Zaromskis, Good-Tsarev, Brian Rogers, Trey Houston, Daniel Straus, Mikkel Parlo's debut, etc. There should be some fireworks. B-Rog, Trey, and Koreshkov have never been in a bad fight. Among my favorite fighters in the sport.

You could see that he is ultra talented on the feet, but he fought very stupid. His corner was screaming for him to stand up when he was on top and Clementi was stalling from the bottom.
Tiger is going to make a lot of noise in Bellator before it is all over, but he took a giant step backwards tonight. Bjorn can't be pleased with how that played out.

It's always one step forward two steps back with Bellator.
Russian dude screwed me out of two 9 fight parlays too.

I'm a week behind. Wow, Eddie A threw one kick that whole fight, drove Pitbull's jaw into the back of his skull. I love watching Eddie move. His deep boxing stance is beautiful.

I really, really hope Zuffa makes Alvarez vs. Melendez. That fight would be bananas.

Alvarez vs Edgar used to be on my list of fights to see, I still think it would be amazing. Both are such good boxers.

Agreed, talented, but fought foolishly. The choke escape was Bendo esque. Then after getting a new lease on life he went back to lunging for strikes that set up counter takedowns, turning his back to Clementi, and sitting in guard instead of disengaging after sweeping or reversing. I was wondering if someone in his corner had the sense he didn't. I would give him an earful during and after that. I was pissed because like SDM I had him in a parlay which he busted. I wasn't as high on Sarnavskiy as most among those who follow prospects. I had him ranked last of the ballyhooed Russians behind Koreshkov, Minakov, and Vasilevsky. He's got questionable TDD, power, and now you could add fight I.Q. unless that was just debut jitters or over-exuberance. He should bounce back and accomplish some things in Bellator, but I don't ever think he'll be a champion. Not only a bad night for Bellator on that account, but the Machaev/Held fight was kind of embarrassing, and E.J. Brooks got KO'ed early in his fight. Now that was a LW prospect I was pretty high on.

Bellator is taking a ton of heat right now (started my Meisha Tate) for having Zoila Gurgel, their champion, fighting on the undercard. It really makes their belt look weak.

There is no active belt to make look weak. Her division doesn't exist anymore.
Anyways, they've ironically acknowledged her championship run, which conspiracy theorists suggested they manufactured, as if she was some kind of cash cow for them, was invalid. That's what she complained to Bellator about publicly, among other things, which is one of the reasons she's probably on the prelims. They aren't averse to putting a women's fight on the main card. They put Aguillar-Fujii on the main card, and dubbed it the real women's championship essentially, which is what set off Zoila.
I for one couldn't care less if a women's fight is on the main card. I'm lukewarm about the male flyweight division, and could Zoila Gurgel beat a 2-8 male flyweight, or Meisha Tate a 2-8 male bantamweight? Major organizations don't put 2-8 flyweights or bantamweights on the main card.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
I'd think it was bogus if it was anyone but Zoila Gurgel. That whole "you guys need to donate money to me" scam of theirs just rubbed me the wrong way. I'm so sure they don't have any income from the gyms they own and seminars from "ufc vet and strikeforce fighter (oh and 3rd degree black belt)" Jorge Gurgel. This sounds douchey of me but I remember listening to some interviews at the time and it just rubbed me the wrong way, like they were conning people and bullying bellator.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
Card for next week's Bellator event (there is one this week, and that card was posted earlier):
Bellator 79, November 2nd
Thiago Santos vs. Richard Hale
Mike Richman vs. Shahbulat Shamhalaev
Douglas Lima vs. Jacob Ortiz
Ryan Ford vs. Kyle Baker
Vitaly Minakov vs. Vladimir Starcenov
Alexei Kudin vs. Kevin Asplund
Magomed Khasbulaev vs. Josh Pulsifer
Guillame De Lorenzi vs. John Carson
Marcus Lelo vs. Christ Franck
Ed Carpenter vs. Josh Appelt
A couple really good fights at the top, names in squash matches, and several notable debuts like those of Minakov, Kudin, Lelo, and De Lorenzi. You're going to have to watch spike.com before the main card if you want to check them out.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
Why is Hale fighting at HW? Was this because of the fallout with Santos/Prindle?
His future's at 205, no? Looks like a killer there from what I've seen.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
Hale was always a huge light heavyweight. It was especially tough for him to make the cut in Bellator's tourney format. He used to fight at HW and he said he was thinking about moving up for a while, but I think what ultimately sealed it was an illness that canceled his LHW tourney participation during the summer series. If he didn't move to HW he'd have had to wait a few months longer to make serious money again. I could see him fighting in the LHW tourney next season if he loses next week (which I think he will, bad luck w/ the match-up of Santos or Minakov, would have beaten Queiroz and Volkov I think) but doesn't get hit too hard. I don't think there will be another HW tourney until summer of next year.

Re: Bellator Fighting Championships - Season 7
Koreshkov had his breakout performance. He really out-classed a good striker in the striking department. Too bad it took that dumb ref about 8 beats too long to realize it. Up there for worst stoppages of the year alongside Curran-Warren and Weidman-Munoz.
Good alpha maled a respectable but underwhelming opponent. I didn't know he had that strong of wrestling and top game. That's something he can use to avoid getting top controlled himself. It can't hurt to have more than one method to avoid what up until now has been his glaring weakness. From what I know he has improved in that dept, but haven't had an opportunity to display it in an actual match. Good should have won the tourney with Hieron and Hawn and be 15-1 right now with the only loss coming against the Funk and a 5-fight heater. One of the most underrated mixed martial artists in the game. I was fine with the reffing in that fight. He shouldn't have motioned to stop the fight, but Tsarev had already covered up so he couldn't see that, and the choice to let the fight continue was correct as it was a punch which caused the eye injury.
Koreshkov-Good has the potential to be the best fight of the season when factoring in the level of combatants and styles. I'm really looking forward to it.
On the under-card, Parlo and Butcher looked like the real deal, while Houston sadly froze up and will need to make adjustments. They'll probably lose a marketable American from the next MW tourney now, but might gain one in Butcher. Butcher has faced pretty good competition for it being so early in his career, but I'd like to see him beat a tourney gatekeeper before being invited after so few fights. Put him against Dan Cramer or someone like this before the end of the season.
