I can't believe we waived Q over McRoberts. Every time I see McRoberts, I think of a PF version of Duhon.

I haven't been excited about Magic rookies in a long time but now I have 4 to be excited about.

I'm liking these decisions. It just sucks we lost what will be two relatively high second rounders for nothing.

McBob's contract presents decent trade value.

I agree with this. Justin has the tools to be a good forward, he just has to put it together and work on his consistency at both ends. He might need some time in the NBDL or Europe.

I think it was a huge mistake that Otis and his crew told Justin to bulk up and he didnt need to. I think it sabotaged his shooting. He needs to lose the bulk and get some finesse back.

That's actually a very good point. Adding bulk/muscle, especially to the arms will change a player's shot (timing, release, touch). Remember when T-Mac added bulk before his 2nd season with us, and in his first 20 games or so he was shooting terribly. He ended up slimming down and losing the bulk over the season and his shot came back.

This^ +1

Also unlike Duhon, I highly doubt McRoberts will see any playing time behind our forwards and bigs. He can take over Q-Rich's old job... cheerleader.

and speaking of cheerleaders... or a dancer in this instance

simple as that. Q was untradeable where mcbob has some value which is helpful in a full rebuild. lets just hope we can trade mcbob into a second rounder before the draft

McRob is only 2 years older than Harper, he is very undervalued here, IMO. People talk like McRob is almost 30 and Harper is only a rookie. Remember, Harper was a senior when came here (17/7 is last season, when was 19 he averaged 9/4) and McRob played only 2 seasons for Duke (13/7 in last season at 19 years old). Probably he was much better ranked when was at HS too, because he went to Duke, not Richmond.

Josh averaged 7/5 2 seasons ago, he isnt that bad. Harper can't average it even in summer league games on regular basis. Another thing is that McRob is a good expiring to be traded along another player (JJ or Al, ie).

And dont forget Q had a trade kicker to "help" us trading him. We should have traded him in the D12 deal, but i think Rob just couldn't to, no one wanted him and doesnt make sense to send a 1st with him just to get ride of his contract.

Waiving Q also opens up PT for Harkless, so Q would have only been sitting on the bench anyway.

That's how I felt, I will definitely come out and say I was rooting for the guy for quite a while. When he came out of college he looked like a baby Rashard and I figured with some grooming in the NBA he would've became a nice back up but all that muscle did something to him you can definitely see that.

Waiving Quentin Richardson was the right move. He did not fit in here anymore with The Magic needing time to develop Harkless, Jones and maybe even giving Afflalo some time at the 3 too.

The Magic will likely eat contracts next year in deals for picks and/or young players so eating $2.8 million on the cap will not be that bad. Those picks that were sent away for Harper can be replaced this way as well.

McRoberts is another big body and someone who The Magic might be able to get a second or two for the deadline. It's possible they can also use his expiring to take a contract from next season in a deal that could maybe net a first. Lots of flexibility with that expiring.

Overall, The Magic made the right calls here.
