James Harden Traded

The Oklahoma City Thunder have traded James Harden to the Houston Rockets, according to sources.

The Rockets will send Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb and future pick considerations for Harden, Cole Aldrich, Lazar Hayward and Daequan Cook.

Wow!

First reactions. I don't know why Cole Aldrich was delt. They will need I guess Thabeet will be the backup C.
Cook and Hayward are pure throw ins. It is Hard to see Harden go. I love the Beard but, since he didn't take the 52 mill they had to move on. He will get the full max with the Rockets and become their number one option. I wish him the best.

What we received. The Mav's first round pick which is top 20 protected. So we probally won't see that for a while! But, we also received the Raptors first round pick. The Raptors first round pick is a lottery pick but top 2 and top 1 protected for the next couple of seasons. Hopefully we receive that pick within the next two seasons.

Lamb is a nice player. He can shoot the lights out, that he can do. It will be great to have him working with Durant and Westbrook. Martin is an expiring deal. He is a very nice player I wonder how it will all work out.

Balkman, where did you see which picks it would be?

I agree Cole doesn't make a lot of sense. Guess they're thinking Nick has another couple of years and are good going a little small. I'd be surprised if they're looking at Thabeet as part of the solution just yet...

I would guess that Orton will be resigned. But, I would think the new 15th man would come off another nba roster or a guy who was just cut.

This is... seriously terrible. Martin is probably only here for a year, and he's seriously not that good. Lamb is a big question mark. The Raptors pick is going to be... what? 10th? We've erased any real depth we have. Martin can't run an offense.

Surely we could have gotten back something more than this?

I actually came here initially to ask you guys what you thought of Reggie Jackson and his place on the depth chart, right before Twitter exploded with this trade. Should I ask that in another thread or can someone give me a quick feel?

Heat fan here. Crazy out of the blue trade by you guys. I think it can work out for both parties though. Always liked Hardin's game. The beard alone made me a fan! Good luck for the season ahead OKC fans!

I'd say at this point Maynor has to be the backup. If Harden were here then you don't need the reliable ball handler Maynor is. With him gone, you need someone you can trust to handle the ball. Jackson must cut down on turnovers before he can be trusted.

I think this trade is great for you guys..

You have so many Line up options.. now you don't have to worry about keeping atleast KD or Westbrook on the floor at all times.. Kevin Martin can handle the scoring for you guys for a bit.. this also helps you match up with the Heat better imo..

Ibaka or Perkins in the Joel Anthony/Whoever role
Durant in the Lebron role
Sefelosha in the Battier role
Kevin Martin in the Mario Chalmers/Ray Allen role + Better scoring
Westbrook in the DWade role.

On top of that you strengthen your bench with a young talent in Jeremy Lamb, and if it unfortunately doens't work out for you guys this year, or even if it does.. you still have a more than likely top 5 lotto pick from the Raptors so long as it isn't Top 2-3(Protected).. to improve your team even more.

Martin is a worse fit on the bench than Harden was (Because he can't handled playmaking duties) and I'll eat my shirt if the Raptors are bad enough to be in the Top 5 this year.

I think that Raptor pick is 6-10 to be honest. another season of defensive coaching plus having bargnani to do the scoring would help them abit.

With Westbrook/Maynor/Durant, Martin doesn't have to do much ballhandling duties. Maybe that's the reason preseason Westbrook was assisting more?

If you're expecting Maynor to be handling all the playmaking duties for the bench lineup then I don't know if we've been watching the same Eric Maynor. I really like Eric Maynor, but he's not that kind of player.

And if you expect Scott Brooks to deviate from his rotations and not play the entire bench unit for 10 minutes a game, then I don't know if we've been watching Scott Brooks.
