THE HORSE.

UPDATE, 1:10 p.m.: You had to figure manager Bruce Bochy would pick a new DH after Hector Sanchez struck out three times in an 0-for-4 last night. He’s going with Ryan Theriot, who thus can have a direct hand in securing his second World Series ring in as many years. He played for the Cardinals in 2011.

Tigers catcher Alex Avila has been scratched with a wrist injury.

The Giants’ lineup:

Pagan CF

Scutaro 2B

Sandoval 3B

Posey C

Pence RF

Belt 1B

Blanco LF

Theriot DH

Crawford SS

GO GIANTS

Theriot???? WTF? Weird. Why the hell does Bochy hate Arias? Arias has an .841 road OPS this year (vs. Theriot .673), why the hell is he not getting a chance? He's also a lot faster on the bases than Theriot. I don't get it.

And why is MLB making these weekend games on the East Coast night games? Not only do people have to stay up late to watch them, but it's probably 10-15 degrees colder than a day game would be. Only thing I can think of is it's an ESPN and Fox decision because they don't want to jeopardize their college football and NFL audience. Pretty sad when the World Series takes a backseat to regular season football games but I guess that's the way it is now.

Anyway...GO GIANTS!

Ratings would be horrible if it had to go against football.

Well actually, it is going against football (NBC), but at least this way FOX can get quality ratings with two football games and then baseball at night time.

Having a 3-0 lead should make me feel pretty good about our chances, but Cain has struggled with the HR this season, and all the Tigers need is a few big hits to make them feel better, then they have JV tomorrow, and suddenly its 3-2 going back to SF and a ton of pressure on us to win game 6. So lets win tonight.

Last night there were at least 5 fly balls from both teams that would have been home runs in warmer weather. And it's forecast to be even colder tonight. So I'm hoping that helps keep some balls in the park for Cain. It's a big advantage for the Giants, who normally score their runs on singles, doubles in the gap, bunts, steals, sac flies, etc., and a big disadvantage for the Tigers, who, in typical AL fashion, wait around for the home run.

EDIT: On the downside, the wind could counteract that. I just looked at the windspeed and direction, it's blowing 15-20 mph from the NNW. Looking at the satellite map of Comerica, that means it's blowing straight out to center field.

Another thing, Scherzer is really good but is a strikeout pitcher, throws a lot of pitches and hasn't made it out of the 6th inning in the playoffs. Hopefully that means the Giants can get into their pen. As always, they need to work pitchers and not help them out by swinging away at bad pitches.

Got a bad feeling about tonight, Tigers are hungry for something to happen, but at least we have 4 games to win one? :sigh:

As I said, I expect Scherzer to shut them down, they just have to work up his pitch count and get into their pen. Unfortunately, he only threw 10 pitches in the 1st, that's not going to get it done.

Pretty high pitch count for Cain already. Do we plan on using Lincecum out of the bull pen tonight?

I heard no, they want to save him in case there's a game 5 and we have to back up Zito. I think Cain will still go at least 5, then we have the full bullpen other than Timmy to use.

I wouldn't use Lincecum tonight. Affeldt, Casilla, Lopez are fresh.

If Cain struggles, I figure we bring out Kontos and Mota to fill in the blanks, then Affledt, Casilla and Lopez to bridge to Romo.
