seemed pretty respected by the players, fans at the games seemed to have an affinity for him (at least down the 3rd base line), employed some useful defensive shifts. that being said, he's a new englander so this isn't that surprising, and now he's a red sock so i hope we mercilessly take that team to the r@pe factory next season.

At the end of the day he was the 3B coach, so despite some minor sentiment him staying or leaving has very little to do with the fortunes of the team.

Good luck anyways Brian I guess.

I liked Butter, so I find it fairly sucky that he's leaving. Seemed like a smart guy when it came to infield defense.

I don't think Boston was a dream job for him, despite the fact that he's from there. I think this had more to do with him being told he'll be passed over for the managerial job again.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.

he also was the infielders' coach, i believe.

he would not have likely been brought back by the new manager, so its no biggie.

Losing a 3rd base coach is never a biggie - having said that, he did put on some creative shifts that worked more times than not this past season.

Here's hoping Wakamatsu follows him to Boston.

Farrell's final parting shot will be leaving us with Murphy and Walton.

so glad butterfield is gone. so many bonehead plays to let runners go home and being called out by a mile.

Hopefully the new manager is allowed to bring in his own people and isn't forced to keep the above mentioned

Take murphy too-please. His hitting approach clearly doesn't mesh well with most players

Shi Davidi ‏@ShiDavidi

Farrell retained three coaches from Gaston's staff in 2010: Butterfield, Walton and Murphy. AA will let new guy bring in his own people

Yes! Murphy is gone too. No more Butters.

Addition by subtraction, good start
