I just started watching a replay of last night's game, and my first thought is that he looks huge. He's definitely put on weight since last season, but he looked very springy on his first and-1.

Finished watching the relevant plays, not really sure what to make of all those missed layups and poor elevation. Hopefully it was just the ankle, he looked as quick as he has all preseason. The acceleration he showed on his monster dunk in the first half was beyond anything he did the last 2 years.

Nice drive in the last minute there but couldn't finish. It didn't look like he got all that high on the attempt, but the explosion he showed on the actual attack, as well as the quickness was what had been missing the last two years.

Weird game.

He rained jumpers from the get-go, don't know what to make of that. He looked fine athletically the few times he put the ball on the floor. And he only played 3 qtrs because of leg cramps. WTF?

Offense looked fantastic though. Miami put up a 127.0 ORTG tonight and were >130 with him on the floor.

Oh yeah. They are just loaded. They finished 3rd on offense in 10-11 despite the slow start and basically no depth beyond the Big 3. Now it's the Big 3 + Ray Allen + depth + cohesiveness + championship swagger. Hard to imagine them not finishing #1 on O this season.

Heat aren't playing again till Friday at New York. Definitely expect a big game from Lebron in MSG

Hope he's done recovering from the ankle+cramps by then. Yeah, I expect him to come out looking to light it up.

I thought his jumper looked pretty good tonight, we'll see if it lasts. This is the first time his jumper has looked decent since game 6 against Boston.

On a less significant note, I expect him to smash some regular seasom advanced stat records this year, namely PER and WS/48. I don't think he'll get the minutes to take down total WS

25.4 set by Abdul-Jabbar in '72. If the Heat win 65+ games it's in play I would think.

I think his raw stat-line will be something like 28.5/9/6.5-7 on 54ish percent from the field, higher if he can keep his jump shot consistent.

If he plays 80 games at 37.5 minutes per game, he's going to have to put up a WS/48 of 0.40592 to match Kareem's 25.4 WS record, and he'll have to top that to take the record. It's definitely a possibility, especially if his minutes are higher or he plays enough games, but it just doesn't seem probable IMO. He'd have to play nearly perfect night-in-night-out to pull that off with that kind of play time. That's a higher WS/48 rate than his 2009 PS run.

That's about what I see for his stat-line as well. I think he can pull of the scoring title this year if he's willing to gun a little for it.

As far as the postseason goes, I want to watch his play a little more, but from what I've been seeing from him the last few months, really the sky is the limit, and I'd say he's got the potential to top his 09 run, especially considering this is the best he's ever looked defensively as well.

Don't think he can keep it up for the entire year, but if he can stay at 35-36 minutes per game, we could be looking for another special postseason from him. Hopefully he won't coast like Shaq during the RS (not like he can adopt the "play my way into shape during the RS" model that Shaq employed and expect to replicate the amount of success Diesel had with it), but the incredible amount of minutes he's played is unprecedented for a superstar wing. Forgot which article compared him with Jordan, Kobe, et al., but it's shocking just how much wear the man has on his knees.

Don't know which article you're referring to, but I made this post regarding his minutes a couple of days ago

SideshowBob wrote:I just want to make two quick points.

The first is that Lebron's played a total of 32491 NBA minutes. That's roughly as many minutes Jordan had played going IN to the 97 season (~33000), Shaq had played going IN to the 04 season, Kobe had played going IN to the 08 season, etc. Just want to point that out. It's very possible that due to his still relatively young age, he shows very strong longevity going forward, but his high minutes are just something to keep in mind.

Second, despite what I've said of how he's looked in the his first two years in Miami, he's looked much closer to his Cleveland days athletically since the start of the Olympics. If he fixes his jumper he looks positioned to have very possibly his best season this year, and if not, it'll be close to 09 and 10.

Also, he needs to maintain a 33.77 PER for the rest of the season (at 80 games total) to take the #1 all time rank in PER.

It really depends on how much scoring he does really. I think his assists will go up to maybe 8 to 9. He will probably average 24-25 ppg with the squad they have now. They just have too many weapons for him to average near 28-30 ppg on that squad. Hell in 2008 on Cleveland he barely even averaged 30 ppg and that was playing 40 mpg.

Outside of his rookie season and 2011, he's never been under 27. Even that's misleading as from January-April in 2011, after the team had settled in a little bit, he put up 28.5 on 60.4% TS over 45 games. He's not going to fall under 27 now, and certainly not in the 24-25 ppg range. It's just not going to happen.

2008 was before he made the progression he did in 09 and 10, so I'm not sure why you're even bringing that up. He had no one to take any offensive pressure off of him, had close to ZERO spacing, and was still putting up a league-leading 30.0 per game on 57% TS with 7.2 assists. Take out his 1 and only game off the bench and the game in December where he injured himself and played only 19 minutes, and he was at 30.4 a game with 7.3 assists on 57% TS in 73 games.

Again, I don't see what point you're trying to make by bringing that season up, especially since the next two years we see him put up 28.5 in 37.7 minutes a game (a career-low at the time) on 59% TS with 7.2 assists again, then the season after, he puts up 29.7 a game on 60% TS with 8.6 assists a game, which was 30.0 on 61.1% TS through the 63 games prior to his injury in early March.

I think we can expect ~28 points a game again from him this season
