Joe Johnson only got 14 million a year when he came off his rookie contract, Harden gets paid way more... check your facts bro, before you post dumb comments like that

I was speaking of his current contract with the Nets. And yes, he got $12-16 M a year with the Hawks. It's a very similar deal, only Harden is a superior offensive players.

They got Hakeem (but passed up on Jordan) and that has been the only good move the franchise has done in their history. this whole, giving Harden a "Joe Johnson" size contract is just typical of Houston's bad and down right dumb basketball decisions .

Don't be so bitter, it's not becoming. The Mavs would have given him the same contract in a heartbeat. Houston was proactive.

this post from tsherkin is just so ignorant, that i don't know where to start. Harden is getting paid more than what Lebron and Joe Johnson got, after their rookie contracts. :noway:

You're ignorant. New CBA bro. Reduction in cap holds benefits potential free agents and teams with cap space.

Yeah, it's $10M more than JJ got, in a different CBA, where contract values have been rising. You might want to be careful about tossing around aggressive words like "ignorant," especially since the context of the signing (and the player's performance) is different between the two players.

Meantime, when people complain about JJ, they complain not about his second contract, but the $120M contract he signed in 2010.

James' second contract, btw, was $60M over three years (including a player's option for a fourth season). The Cavs offered a 5/80, but he didn't want it.

Again, you should be more careful tossing around the word "ignorant," because it might be construed as a personal attack when it's clear that you don't really have all of your facts in order.

All the haters are going to get exposed for having bad basketball opinions when he has explosions like this on a regular basis. Reminds me of when Blake Griffin blew up his second (well, first) season. Barring a freakish injury, Harden is going to have more games like this.

He's got the talent to have big games, that's for sure, and his PnR skills will have him feasting on the mediocre defensive teams of the league. It'll be fun to watch as he plays some better teams, but he's got some intriguing talent.

He's making a joke about Griffin not playing in the season he was drafted after the preseason.

Harden have scored many times against better teams before, it's not going to be much different now except his passing might not be as good against better teams b/c of his teammates now.

We'll see; it's often tough to sustain efficacy with significantly increased minutes, especially jumping from the bench into a starter's role and basically becoming the #1 scoring weapon without a ton of offense help around him. His passing is actually the last thing I'd worry about, that should stay the same or improve, not decline.

Looking back on Harden's situation as a rookie, it's almost kind of sad he ended up on Okc. We might have never gotten to see what could have been.

It would be like - imagine this - Okc drafts this SG named Michael Jordon and brings him off the bench because of their greedy bookend scorers of Westbrook and Durant. He proves to be sixth man of year, but there are hints that he could be so much more. But Westbrook and Durant don't ever want him to start because he will take away from their shot totals. He needs to sacrifice his game. He needs to be happy with this too and just accept it for the good of the team. So we never ever get to see what this player Michael Jordon can really so; we never realize what his full potential is. I wonder if he could have been the GOAT?

Yes, I just said it, Harden = MJ, lol.

he is also going to have plenty of 4-19 nights. he is good, but lets not pretend last night will be the norm. he will be a 21/5/4 guy im sure, but certainly not a prime wade or anything like that

That is kinda messed up. But it was just a crack of the knee cap anyway. Not any sort of serious thing.

Yea, but he was out the entire year. No one remembers because he's been fine ever since, but I think having Griffin sidelined that year had major ramifications. First, it's one less year of development for a player whose game relies heavily on athleticism. And it's not like 2010 free agency would have been a worthwhile time to showcase your young stars...

Can Harden put up prime B Roy stats?

22/5/5 on 48% shooting for the season?

^ I think that's well within reach. Very likely for him to end up with these stats more or less.

Maybe even slightly better in terms of points, maybe 23, 24 - on the other hand the shooting % might take a minor hit.
