Trade deadline

Post#1 » by Icness » Wed Oct 31, 2012 12:11 pm

This got moved from Tuesday to Thursday thanks to Frankenstorm.

One trade already done:
Detroit trades undisclosed pick to Jacksonville for WR Mike Thomas. Pick will be a 5th as Lions already traded their 4th to get LB Tahir Whitehead. Could be a 6th I guess.

Rumors I can validate:
Detroit and Washington have both called Houston about reserve safety/former starter Troy Nolan

The Rams are getting calls for Steven Jackson and their corner depth. Green Bay, New York Jets, Tennessee, and Cincinnati have called about Jackson. Packers fans shouldn't get their hopes up

Kansas City called Carolina about Steve Smith with what (if it's the real offer) had to be a real tempting offer. 2nd next year and conditional 14 pick.

The Chiefs are getting calls for Dwayne Bowe and Dexter McCluster. Houston has called about both. The Lions called about Bowe but didn't like the price.

Rumors I cannot validate:
Tebow to the Jaguars

Mark Ingram to the Packers. You're going to hear a lot about the New Orleans RBs, all of them. I can tell you Ingram is the least likely to move. If a team has an extra RB with a healthy knee, the Packers and Bengals are interested.

Matt Flynn to Jacksonville or San Diego.

Interesting. Any word on who the Texans might get in return for Nolan? How about Megatron, that would be fine with me.

;)

I wouldn't mind seeing Bowe in a Texans uniform either, depending on what they would have to give up.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

They would really like a slot receiver with an expiring contract, but would take a middle round pick. Or so I'm told. Clearing future cap room is very important to Rick Smith right now.

Please let Tebow to the Jags happen. My life would be filled with comedy until all of my friends who are Jags fans stop talking to me.

I'm shocked if there is any truth to KC being interested in Steve Smith. He's too old for them by the time they can get back on track, what a crazy price they are thinking about offering for their situation. Can't see why a contender wouldn't value him more than KC. I don't see that deal happening.

And once again I'm shocked by the lack of trades. I see 32 teams that all have problems, yet roughly 0 teams are going to make any trades to solve those problems. What a travesty of global incompetence across the board.

There isn't one GM in the league that is doing a great job right now, and only one more day for somebody to prove me wrong.

A must read on the lack of trades from Andrew Brandt:
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/85733 ... nfl-trades

The part about financial pain is the most significant IMO. It's a complete deal killer for most teams because they just cannot afford it, and he uses Deangelo Williams as a good example. Carolina almost cannot trade him because to do so would require them to cut other assets. They'd have to pay almost $10M in cap hit next year to trade him this week.

The QB market isn't exactly teeming with talent. The one guy that could really help is Matt Moore, but he's starting for Miami this week while Tannehill is banged up. Matt Flynn would be the next guy but the book is out on him and nobody wants to take on that contract. Colt McCoy isn't any better than Matt Cassel.

I'd put Jackson being moved at under 10%. Teams that are considered buyers at RB (GB, CIN, TEN, maybe ARI) are also teams that do not part with draft picks.

The New England Patriots on Thursday moved to bolster their porous secondary, acquiring cornerback Aqib Talib, who has one game remaining on a four-game suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

The Buccaneers announced the trade completed before Thursday's 4 p.m. deadline. In addition to Talib, the Patriots will get a 2013 seventh-round draft pick and send a 2013 fourth-rounder in return.

Talib is in the final season of his contract. The Patriots will pay him the prorated portion of his $1.825 million base salary. He won't be eligible to play for the Patriots, who are on bye this week, until a Week 11 matchup against the Colts.

Good move for the Pats, he's an above average DB. Sure is a huge upgrade over the crap they have out there.

Gave up a 4th to get Talib for 8 games and a 7th round pick. Over/under on games he plays before getting suspended again and/or waived +/- 5.5

Talib has been a very talented guy at times but he is an arrogant, incorrigible, uncoachable, drug-addicted moron. You can tell him to look this up and I won't be scared because he's too imbecilic to comprehend the verbiage.

Everybody is coachable, even drug addicts, but not every coach knows how to coach head cases. To me that is not a fair reason to not like him as a player, that's only a redirect to saying well with that kind of attitude that probably means you are used to watching bad coaches and it begs any team that thinks that to ask the question of whether or not they have a good coach.

And those things might be concerns but he also has been super productive with 20 tackles and 7 PDs in only 4 games. Only 1 INT but it's better than none and a lot better than what the Lions' players average. I don't like Belichick as a coach, but this is clearly a steal of a deal. Whether he screws it up by not coaching him well or if Talib makes another bad mistake is another thing, but I think Belichick made a heck of a good deal on this one and that annoys me to have to say that, but I'm always fair! ;)

Could you tell me how you really feel about Talib? Haha

I don't have a problem taking a gamble on a player for a 4th round pick. If he can help that's great, if not he is shown the door.

It wasn't a 4th round pick, it was only dropping from probably the bottom of round 4, to possibly high in the 7th but probably the middle. So there might only be a 2.5 round dropdown of that pick.
