This is a great deal for Lawson, and he has a chance to be worth more. He's one step away from being a max type player. He would be absolutely perfect for the Jazz. >_<

Also, this illustrates a principle of NBA economics that many people do not understand.

LeBron James is worth35-40 million a year, and would get that without the max salary in place. Dwyane Wade is worth 30ish. Kobe, when he signed, was worth 30ish. So are Howard, CP3, Durant and probably a healthy Derrick Rose. The next tier down of DWill, Westbrook, Kevin Love, Chris Bosh, Dirk etc all would make 20-25 or so.

Then once you factor in bidding wars and escalation for guys that maybe aren't worth that but would be the beneficiaries of the demand in the marketplace.....you have a pool of about 100m or so in player salaries every year that would normally go to the top players in the game (as well as the modern day Juwan Howards) but aren't because of the restrictions that are in place. This money has to go somewhere. The result of this is what you see with guys in the Ty Lawson mold. Really really good players that aren't worth max deals. They end up getting 12, 13, 14 million per season when really they might only get 10 or so if there weren't a max salary in place.

Only I really think Ty Lawson is on the high end of that spectrum, and that this contract is very favorable for the Nuggets. A better example of what I'm talking about would be DeMar Derozan, who just got 10-11 per and is worth about 6 or so.

Just gonna put this out there... I'd be willing to pay Collison a good chunk of change when he hits the market. I like his game a lot and he'd fit in really well with our young core.

Derozan deal was criminal GMing.

Unbelievable. In that I literally couldn't believe it was true.
