Predictions for 2012 NBA Season

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Tue Oct 30, 2012 2:34 am

Figured I'd go on record with a few of my bold predictions.
For praise and reverence for all my predictions that come true.

And unyielding ridicule for all the things that are inevitably completely wrong.

Starting with the Hawks....

-Louis Williams will win the '6th Man of the Year' award this season. With Harden in Houston and likely a starter, Louis will easily win this award.

-Josh Smith will be an All-Star this year. He'll put up monster scoring numbers as the primary option in a high flying, fast scoring offense. (Josh still won't shoot over 50% from the field, though.)

-Josh's numbers will increase, but the Hawks win total won't. We'll contend for a playoff spot, but will hover around .500 for most of the season.

-Joe Johnson will be missed. As a steadying force, as a goto player, as a defender. (Leading scorers and 6 time All Stars are not easily replaced.)

-Al Horford will be the first Hawks player to average a double-double since Dikembe Mutombo.

-This will be Larry Drew's last season coaching in Atlanta.

I agree with most of this but I think the Hawks finish better than .500. I like the Hawks to win around 46-49 games this year. A positive for us is our starting schedule. We only play 8 playoff teams, from last year, in our first 22 games. This should help the team gain confidence and hopefully start off with a nice record. In those 22, we get Orlando twice, Charlotte 3 times, and Washington 3 times (with no Wall). We should be able to win atleast 6 of those 8.

As for my full NBA predictions:

-Damian Lillard will win ROY in a close race over Anthony Davis.

-Tyreke Evans will win Most Improved Player.

-The Spurs will win the Western Conference.

-Miami will win a hard fought battle with Brooklyn to win the East.

-Chicago will still somehow manage to win the Central Division.

-Mike Brown won't last the season in LA.

-Al Horford will be All NBA 3rd Team

Interesting predictions. I see where you're coming from and can agree with you on quite a few of these. Thanks for sharing.

Harris will be the 2nd leading scorer, avrage over 6 ft/game again and show good outside shooting. He'll get a 6 mil/year contract next year with some other team looking for a PG, maybe NO.

I think you guys have a team good enough to grab the 5th or even the 4th seed. I really liked the 42.5 win over on your team and bet some money on it.

As for individual predictions:

I also see Louis Williams winning the 6th man of the year award.

I don't think Josh Smith will improve his stats, but the Hawks will be playing good basketball and Joe Johnson is no longer on the team, so he will finally get that well-deserved all-star spot just because the media will be talking about him deserving to be on it.

I see us being the 6th seed in the East, Lou Williams will be in contention for both sixth man and most improved. Smith will have a better year, not a giant leap forward, but a better year for sure.
