Durant + Rondo combination

Post#1 » by sunskerr » Fri Nov 2, 2012 11:04 pm

For the past few weeks I've been wondering how great this combination could be as the core of a team. Durant is obviously huge in points, rebouds and 3 points, and Rondo wins the assist category for you, while providing some additional pts, rebounds and steals.

Unfortunately I've never been in a position high enough to pull this off. Has anyone ever tried or observed this combination? What do you think about it?

I personally do not like that pairing. One of Durants best qualities is with his high FT% and high volume of FTS. Rondo's terrible ft shooting basically negates that.

I like the pairing of Rondo and Howard because both shoot a high FG% Howard scores more while providing elite rebounding elite blocks and a lot of steals for a big man. Rondo provides great rebounding for a PG with elite assists and steals. they complement eachother very well.

I would pair Durant with a bigman like Marc Gasol. Great % from both, Durant anchors scoring, Both provide rebounding assists steals and blocks

I actually managed to do so. In my league, I had the 1st pick. Here's how it worked out:

1. Kevin Durant
2. LeBron James
3. Russell Westbrook
4. Chris Paul
5. Kobe Bryant
6. Dwyane Wade
7. Carmelo Anthony
8. Al Jefferson
9. Deron Williams
10. Dwight Howard

Round 2
1. DeMarcus Cousins
2. Josh Smith
3. LaMarcus Aldridge
4. Serge Ibaja
5. Kevin Love
6. Dirk Nowitzki
7. Kyrie Irving
8. Pau Gasol
9. James Harden
10. Rajon Rondo

So far so good for me.

Wade is basically Ben Gordon without the 3-point shooting. Sure, he's been a pretty good defender this year, so that would upgrade, but I'd rather have Gordon because he's cheaper and can hit those threes

Yeah, with Rondo you'd rather just give up the FT category in a H2H league, whereas with Durant, you want that to be one of your strengths.

Well, Rondo doesn't actually mean you have to punt your FT's. He's not going to destroy your FT% like Dwight or Blake. You can still be fairly solid or middling in that category with a guy like Rondo. Last year I had Josh Smith and was middle of the pack in FT%, and his other production was simply more valuable than whatever negligible effect he had on my FT%. The rest of my team was ~70 to ~85% FT shooters who didn't all necessarily shoot a high volume of said shot anyway.

Rondo averages like 3 free throws a game. Hardly a problem.
