Tyrus Thomas trades?

Post#1 » by Elden Payton » Sat Nov 3, 2012 10:55 pm

This is welcome to go into the roster thread but this is a very specific issue for us...

Watching Tyrus is the most frustrating experience in basketball, yesterday he seemed disinterested, unfocussed, he picked up four quick fouls and was laughing!!

He gets blocked on every dunk attempt and if anyone is going to constantly brick shots from the elbow it should be MKG.

If he doesn't care in the first game of the season when we are in front then he won't last the grind of the season before one of us kill him...He needs to be traded ASAP...we've passed the amnesty deadline have we not?

I think we need to try to trade him to Orlando for Al Harrington if possible, Harrington's deal sucks and he's regressed a lot over the last few seasons but he is 100000x the player that Tyrus is and Orlando will probably be willing to take a gamble on talent right now...not that Tyrus has any.

Potential deals?

Tyrus+Diop for Boozer?
Tyrus for Turkoglu? (when back)
Tyrus for Luke Walton?

No other team is dumb enough to take on Tyrus Thomas without giving back garbage contracts in return.

Charlotte never should have traded for him and should have bit the bullet and admitted the mistake by letting him walk instead of signing him to that ridiculous extension.

IMO, our best option is to stand pat and hold onto the amnesty card (unless its expired) in case we're FA players sometime in the next couple offseasons and need to free up some space.

I don't think we'll find any takers, unless we really do get robbed in a deal with the other team sending over some even worse contracts. I rather see Tyrus on the bench for the rest of his time on this deal.

As sad it is we should just keep him as he is almost untradeable (and those possible trades would be meh - including losing the amnesty option while getting a not valuable player on simillar contract or losing valueable piece instead). Count him against the minimum salary cap and wait till he becomes expiring contract and thus gets some value (see Maggette, Corey). Another option is to amnesty him, but Jordan would still have to pay him, and unless we need to free some salary room it doesn't make much seense unless he becomes a locker room problem. Which may no be out of question as his body language, laughing after calls not in his favor and rumours about some players not buying into the new culture seems fitting each other. And he brawled with prevous coach as well. I guess we should pay him not to play, maybe not to be with team and amnesty him in case of need or trade hm as expiring contract (hard to predict if how much value he would as such, if any, but some gm will have muddied waters cap situations by then).

We need to get another athletic PF to play insted of him to keep us sane. No question about it.

Gee recently signed a contract and, as a result, he cannot be traded until Dec 15, 2012.

But they can't be that desperate to meet minimum slary floor next year.

Funnily enough Tyrus might do well under Dwane Casey.

This is a good example of a potential Tyrus trade.

When the team itself comes to you with an offer that nice, you don't question it and add pieces from our side. You just take the deal and laugh.

Aside from Tyrus who has the worst deal in the league?

We should try to trade for them.

Uhh. I wouldn't want Amare, but if we could get him for Tyrus I would be all over that.

The Bulls may take Tyrus & BG back along with a 1st round pick in exchange for Boozer & Rip. I wouldn't do it, but it's a idea that might be possible

I think Amare definitely holds the title for the worst contract in the league. I think it's basically untradeable. Simmons had a podcast with one of the NBA experts (was it Zach Lowe? don't remember) and he said that he sees a scenario in which Brooklyn or GSW trades for Amare before the trade deadline. And, of course, he used the good old Simmons logic and went by some made-up theories that "Golden State needs a statement trade" and "Brooklyn would want to make a huge noise with that trade and become even more popular". Both I and Lowe don't see it coming, but he believes in a Humphries-Amare trade.

Anyhow, I don't really see any possible scenarios between us and NYK...

Could something like Tyrus, Gana and Carroll for Amare and two second rounders happen? What would be the logic behind this?

I guess we can push for some picks since we're rebuilding and get that post presence we really need and hope that he brings some veteran leadership to the locker room. He's a horrible defender, there has been some controversy around him, but I don't think that he's that bad of a guy. The question is would we want to 12 million dollars more for the next three years to have him instead of Tyrus. Seems like NYK should give up something more than second rounders and I don't think that's happening, since they have no problems of paying big salaries.
However, if they do want to acquire some expiring contracts and lower their salaries a bit, that's the deal for them. Actually, if I were the Knicks GM I'd strongly consider this. It's just I don't think that the Amare-Melo-Chandler trio can possibly work together.

I've been a Stoudemire fan since his time in Phoenix with Shawn Marion. I love his game when he's healthy, and since we're getting ZERO production out of Tyrus Thomas, if he was involved in a deal for STAT, it would be like paying Amare 11-12M more, which there's no doubt that he's worth. When healthy, he's an All-Star, which is even more valuable to us, as we have zero identity and a gaping hole at the 4 when Mullens can't find his shot (which has been all season so far). Sure, it would cash strap us some, but within the next three years, can you really see us being huge players in free agency, signing anybody higher profile than the Ramon Sessionses of the league? If STAT really flops, then we tank for picks and in two years we've got a 20M+ expiring contract on our hands.
