Trade Deadline 2013

Post#1 » by cpfsf » Mon Nov 5, 2012 6:25 pm

Too soon? I figure there is a draft thread, so I figured why not a trade thread.

Tyshaun Prince
3 years remaining (including this year). His contract will not conflict with the future contract extensions of Love, Rubio, or Williams. Still a great perimeter defender. Fully capable of guarding the 2 and 3. High BBIQ and another insurance policy for a team that can't afford another injury. Not sure if Detroit would trade Prince to a team that can't guarantee minutes and a starting role.

Raja Bell
His questionable attitude may be overlooked because he has just one year remaining. Utah considered buying him out, so he's essentially free. Unlikely that he will be able to play heavy minutes because he's 36. Tough defender and still able to connect on the offensive end. Relatively affordable contract.

Not that interested in either. Would be targeting a SG who could contribute something, most likely. JJ Redick would be a nice addition and would probably be available.

I'd be fine with Bell. He's a low-cost addition. Everyone wants to blow up the team, but I think patience is the best approach.

shrink wrote:I certainly like the idea of a UTA swap with Raja Bell. Bell would fit the Wolves, and he's clearly of negative value to the Jazz .. $3.5 mil of salary that won't play. I understand their need is a PG of the future, but getting a reliable back-up while the PGOTF grows, and finding a mentor, is a good idea. This year, their depth chart is Mo Williams, then Tinsley. Both Bell and Ridnour have more value on each other's teams, so a trade seems possible.

shrink wrote:The basic deal moves players to teams where they would have more value, so the foundation is strong. Better yet, the fact that you can wiggle this trade so much should make it easier to find a value piece that both would agree is worthwhile.

(Ridnour OR Barea) + M. Lee for

Raja Bell + (Tinsley OR Watson (inj) + Value?

There might even be a few good alternatives in there, depending on what the value piece is.

Just a thought:

MIN Out: Williams, Barea
MIN In: Harris, Montiejunas

ATL Out: Harris, Smith
ATL In: Williams, Barea

HOU Out: Montiejunas
HOU In: Smith

Salaries are way off right now, but its not easy with HOU. I made it work though: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=a68ncsm

I don't see Atlanta doing that. They're looking to clear cap space. Plus the Hawks are still a solid playoff team in the East.

Are we somehow trading through a time machine and getting 2009 Bell, from when he could still play?

In theory, Utah could offer cash to Minnesota to get rid of Bell. That's reasonable considering that Utah was willing to do a buyout.

Even if he can't play, he's an expiring contract. We need to save money to resign Pekovic and Budinger in the offseason.

When Rubio is back, does it really make sense to have 3 PGs who make 4m+?

I know the hype is still new about this guy, but he is not the type of guy you plan your salary cap space around.

Pekovic you do.

min in: prince bell cash
min out: ridnour roy

-prince is a very nice insurance policy
-fewer idiotic allegations of racism 8-)
-improved perimeter defense
-more balanced team
-mismatch potential

det in: ridnour roy
det out: prince

-det saves 8.2 million overall
-improved cap space in 2013 and 2014
-prince’s age doesn’t fit well with the teams core

utah in: nothing
utah out: bell + cash

why: utah tried to buy out bell earlier this year without any luck

cpfsf is right -- UTA has incentive to throw in cash rather than a full buy-out for nothing. However, I''d prefer if we asked for some other asset.

(Ridnour OR Barea) + M. Lee for

Raja Bell + (Tinsley OR Watson (inj) + Value?

If we made it Barea and Lee (most value?) for Raja Bell and Watson (least value), do you think we could get a protected 1st from UTA?

The way he's playing the price will be too high.

Prince would likely match the 30 mpg he plays in Detroit. The difference is he wouldn't start. It's the guards who would probably see the biggest reduction in minutes because Kirilenko and Prince have the small forward position locked up while Rubio will get to play his 36.

That of course is assuming the team is healthy. If an injury occurs to Love or Kirilenko later in the year....
