I've been a Shanahan supporter but I think his time is up. He looks like a beaten man. His win % is worse than Jim Zorn's and Steve Spurrier's I believe(don't have exact #'s on hand but he's on pace for three straight double digit losing seasons). Yeah he inherited a terrible roster and got boned by the $18 Mil cap penalty but ultimately this is a results driven business and he hasn't achieved the results.

Well, he's now trying to clean things up:

Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan insists that he's not giving up on his team's 2012 season, and that a postgame quote that indicated as much in the wake of Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers is being misinterpreted.

"To insinuate that I was giving up on the season is completely ridiculous," Shanahan told ESPN.com in a phone interview Monday afternoon. "We've got five NFC East games still on the schedule. Any time you have division games, you have a great chance."

Whatever, he's quit. There is no taking back something like that. The players have heard it and they have lost their incentive to play hard. Most of them suck anyways so I couldn't care less if they're upset but as a fan there is no reason to watch when your coach flat out says it's about evaluating for the future. I would watch just for RG3 but I hate how our coaches are using him like he's Tim Tebow with all the zone read option crap.

The local media have absolutely destroyed him today. Brian Mitchell on the postgame show last night was blasting the team(both players and coaches). Had to get bleeped twice. :D

I think everything Shanahan said is absolutely true, but there's no way he can come out and say it. I saw someone try and compare it to Jim Fassel "going all in" with the Giants a few years back. HUGE difference.

8 games into a 3 yr/$18M contract, the Chiefs have waived CB Stanford Routt. He is also costing the Raiders $5M in cap hit this year, will cost the Chiefs $5.2M next year and $6.2M vs. the cap the next two seasons. Routt ranks at or near the bottom in completions allowed, yards allowed per reception, and missed tackles among corners.

Ic, if you had to say which franchise is in the best shape for the future out of the Jags or Chiefs, who would you choose?

Chiefs have some solid pieces: Hali, Houston, D. Johnson, Berry, Flowers. That's half of a very good defense, potentially. They have strong bookend tackles on offense and one of the most dynamic RBs in the league in Charles. They are a lot closer to winning than their play this year indicates. Gotta get a legit QB, legit dependable WRs, and some toughness up the gut. Could turn it around quickly with a little luck. The new GM there (and they'll have one) could make a big splash with a new QB and the right coach.

Jaguars are further away. Not much of a pass rush. OL is inferior and they're likely to lose Meester this offseason, Monroe will need to be paid too. MJD on the downside. Gabbert has improved but needs a lot more to keep his job long-term, doesn't get a lot of help from the WRs. The secondary is a mess. They have so many bad contracts and underwhelming young talent. Worst roster in the league IMO though they play harder than some other teams weekly, KC included. I like the interior DL and if someone can get Blackmon motivated they could have a strong WR group, like the improved Shorts and L. Robinson will get better. Gabbert >> Cassel.

If the Eagles win tonight then I have achieved what I thought I'd never be able to. I'll finish the week with a perfect 14-0 record.
Too bad I didn't bet any money on the games. Go Eagles!

That's pretty awesome. I have gone 15-1 twice and 12-1 once. What I wouldn't give for one perfect week one of these years...

I just hate the way the roughing the QB is defined. He didn't get hit in the head and even if he did it would be because he ducked. That needs to be a reviewable play because defenders shouldn't be punished for going in for a perfectly legal hit only to have it become illegal because of the QB ducking.

The Saints were stupid to not trade at least one of those running backs. I know they got calls.

Ingram's looked good, but the Saints were dumb to not get Ivory on the field ahead of him before tonight. I'm sure there are internal politics at play (first round pick vs undrafted FA), but Ivory is so much more agile in the open field, shiftier between the tackles, and seems to be just as able to get yards after contact.

The Eagles have 156 yards rushing at halftime and are losing 21-3. So much or "you have to run the ball" to win.
