What's going on with Drew Gooden?

Post#1 » by Rondo2Hondo » Tue Nov 6, 2012 4:45 pm

Is he injured? I noticed he has a few DNPs this season. Is he seriously behind Sanders and Udoh on the depth chart? I really think he took a huge step last season as a savvy basketball player. His passing was fantastic. It seems to me that he would make for a great pairing beside a rebounding, shot-blocking big like Dalembert. His passing would really help with two ball dominant guards (when is Ellis going to learn to play off the ball?)

Anyway, I like your team this year. Lots of nice depth, and interchangeable parts. Hopefully Henson can bulk up in the offseason, because he projects to be a very nice player.

Want him? Take him. He doesn't deserve to see the court here (anywhere).

I can honestly say that I haven't been more happy with his performance this year. He is contributing just the right amount.

The Bucks are currently undefeated with his contributions coming strictly from a cheerleading standpoint.

We must keep him in his current role.

1) He's seriously behind Sanders and Udoh on the depth chart.
2) He's a terrible pairing next to Dalembert because they're both out of position frequently and Gooden recovers terribly.
3) He needs the ball in his hands to have any value, and even then he's a break even player offensively. Not at all a match with two ball dominant guards.

I like stats as much as anyone, but this is why looking at stats without using an eye test of some sort is futile in assessing a player. He had a poor year last year. It used to be that his flaws could be covered up because he had youth on his side when he was in Cleveland, for instance. Now that everyone knows he has no chance to improve and what athleticism he had will be deteriorating, he is useless except as a cheerleader.

Classic fantasy basketball question.

Gooden seems like a good guy, but we're a better team when he doesn't play. Plain and simple.

He's a really, really, really, really bad basketball player and is behind every big on the depth chart.

Yes.

Drew Gooden was not, is not and will continue to not be renowned as, how should I say this, a cerebral basketball player

Dalembert should see no more than 10 minutes/game. The pairing of Dalembert and Gooden should see 0 minutes/game

Never.

Rondo2Hondo, as Aaron Rodgers so aptly put it, "Shhh!" I'm thinking Skiles forgot he's on the bench and the less his name is brought up - the more likely we can blissfully continue as we have. ;)

He sucks and he is rightfully racking up the DNP's.

We should seriously trade this guy before people realize his real value.

What's going on with Drew Gooden?

:D

Not. Sure. If. Trolling.

I'll assume you're serious...

Drew Gooden is FINALLY the 12th-15th man on this Bucks team. I say FINALLY because he's averaged 25 minutes per game the last couple years. The court time logged by Drew Gooden is always the least watchable part of a Bucks game. I doubt you'd find too many Bucks' fans surprised by the correlation between 2-0 and Drew Gooden rotting at the end of the bench. Whats sad is it took two full seasons to come to this realization. Two years late? Thats pretty much "par" for this organization. Kohl wanted Gooden. Hammond signed Gooden. Skiles played Gooden. They're all at fault. Its hilarious when I see fans give Skiles credit for not playing him this season. Really? It took Skiles two years to figure out what many of us noticed in two weeks. Thats the Bucks for you. Granted its only two games, but this team has a different look. That "look" is directly related to Gooden not seeing the floor. And its always been an "addition by subtraction" thing with Drew. But, hey, he's been a great cheerleader, so I don't mind him on the bench.

Less Goodren. Better Bucks will be. I'm happy to see that he not playing. Water boy is an appropriate job for him.

If he gets waived, I hope we grab him as a bench rebounder. I'm just shocked to see him get no court time when the forwards ahead of him are such low-skill players.

I understand people having a negative opinion of Drew, but he has a lot more basketball smarts than Sanders, and Udoh offers nothing offensively. Henson can't develop fast enough.

Anyway, I just wanted to see what was going on with him. The Bucks are playing some exciting ball this year, I'd feel more comfortable tuning in if they traded Monta Ellis (my least favourite player ever).

I'm really glad Gooden is finally not getting playing time. Sanders, Udoh, Ersan are all superior options at F/C. I also would much rather see Henson play over him for development's sake.

Thing about Gooden is, as good as he can look on the offensive side of the court when he's on, whether it is passing, shooting, or whatever, that's how bad he is defensively. And even offensively, he's way too inconsistent - too often playing above average against terrible teams and then sucking it up any time we play someone good. His basketball IQ on the defensive side of the court is probably in the bottom 5% of the league. I was fooled by him too when he strung together a stretch of nice games late last season. Gooden is fool's gold, nothing more. All those times I argued in his defense this spring would probably qualify as one of the most embarrassing things in my RealGM 'career" now that I look back at it.

I like his potential. I like when he attacks the hoop, and is an aggressive rebounder. However, he's not always aggressive. He drifts, he has looked absolutely lost on defense, LeBron totally abused him more than he usually abuses others. He actually should be playing more with the first unit rather than trying to be the main scorer with the reserves. He is absolutely not worth his contract, I'd much rather have Batum or Kirilenko at the same price.

He has a chance to improve, but I don't see him ever being more than a 14 and 6 guy in the starting line-up.
