McDyess considering a return?

Normally, the potential return of a 38-year-old forward/center wouldn’t merit much discussion.

When that 38-year-old forward/center is Antonio McDyess, and the team he last played for — the Spurs — has an open roster spot and the need for a rugged, veteran presence, it’s worth keeping an eye on.

McDyess agent told Yahoo! Sports he would be reaching out to “select teams” to gauge their interest. No telling if the Spurs are one of those clubs, but it certainly isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

With guys like Kurt Thomas and Rasheed Wallace still managing to stick around its easy to see a team taking a flyer on him. But the big question is do we take a shot at him?

I'd rather we get somebody more lively and/or with more size if we can, to be honest.. though Splitter being infused now would make things better for Dyess on this team compared to 2011 and 2010, even at 38 I bet he can still go just fine of course in limited minutes... and plus with Diaw's agility and strength on defense to add... but having Dyess couldn't hurt. He's still a strong defender and can be enough an active player, mobility-wise. What I mean is that we have more "youth" and speed on defense up front compared to 2011, even though we really should have another third big with decent size/agility up front, still.

Ideally, I'd rather get Dyess be a 2.5 man off the bench to replace Bonner (sending him wherever for something) and then get a younger big as well.

I wonder if Dyess feels were good enough to get a ring... we may well be with OKC taking a serious hit to their philosophy and offensive dimension that is not what it'll be as it was, but I could just easily see him going to Miami to bolster their general toughness, experience and size up front. Wouldn't really fit in with their running game, but would play center anyway all the time on that team. Besides that Miami, can't play small-ball all the time, Spolestra and Riley know this, and would likely be much more of a situational guy there. They could play big (even though it's still somewhat small) with Bosh and Dyess, and use Anthony for spots, still, too.

Probably inspired by Sheed. Our bigs rotation is pretty set now though, right? I'd be surprised if Dice got many minutes if he came back.

I'd love to see McDyess return to the league, but I'm not sure the Spurs are a great match at this point. If he signs with the Thunder, Lakers, or Clippers though, it could be a problem.
