i'd rather just sign jackson and/or marcum and re-sign kelly johnson on the ultra-cheap, than assume that neither hech, sierra, or syndergaard will be serviceable starters at any point during their careers and deal all of them now for an average pitcher and average second basemen.
i see niese as a slightly better version of j.a. happ. not sure if that's good enough to hold down the #3 spot in the rotation in supposed contention years. i'm indifferent to murphy. i think the tools are there for hech to at least be as good as him in a couple years, you don't have to agree.
edit* clearly don't know what i'm talking about having thought niese was right-handed

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

I'd rather 1 great ace with 4 good pitchers and the potential for more people to come up through the system and take the place of the ones that burn out.
Average pitcher? He is ranked 52nd in the league in terms of FIP, and he is only 21 have a fWAR on that list that are his age or younger. If you include age and current production you could easily argue #2 starter with upside.
Average 2B? His career fWAR over the last 2 years is 5.0 fWAR, good enough for 14th in the league. Worth mentioning he missed like 200 PA in 2011 due to injuries. I would put him at above average but not great. He can be a solid starter+. I believe he had a down year in 2012.
If you see Hech hitting .292 in 1700+ PA's with his defense your looking at a HOFer. I never seen such a projection. I think Hech is lucky to make it as a top 30 SS.

You really love Daniel Murphy, who's basically the equivalent of Yunel Escobar at second base. I think the Mets would accept your offer in a heart beat and there would be a lot of pissed off Jays fans...and this is coming from a Jonathon Niese fan...who's also a southpaw

except yunel has consistently provided well above average defense up the middle. murphy on the other hand sucked defensively at 2B in his first full-time role at that position.

He is more or less a throw in. Neise is the main piece. This is the cost of pitching. Either stop demanding Josh Johnson or get used to J.A. Happ caliber players being the headline of the offseason for the Jays.

4 million dollars
Miami Marlins Receive:
Henderson Alvarez, RHP
