Re: Nets not better then knicks, time will tell!
But ultimately I could never understand why people felt (some so strongly and vehemently) that the Nets team didn't need any time to gel when pretty much every other team (even the Heat when the Big 3 first joined up) needed a year to really find their groove. Honestly it reminds me of the part in My Cousin Vinny when Vinny was questionning the fat redneck about how grits could cook faster on his stove than on any other stove on the face of the eart. There's no question about the talent the Nets have on the team, but you can't just throw a whole bunch of guys together and expect them to immediately come out clicking. The Knicks have been trying to do that for 12 years now, same with about 60-70% of the other teams in the NBA. But BOOM the Brooklyn Nets apparently don't need any of that weening period. I'm from Queens originally and live on Long Island now but I'm pretty sure they still have gel in Brooklyn like they do everywhere else.

Nets problem through 2 games is two fold...they don't play a lick of freaking defense and they can't rebound the ball.
They are what we used to be...all offense, no defense...we all know around these parts you can't win 'ish that way.

The Nets will win games but there Defense is suspect
That Said I am concern with the Knicks and our next opponent.
We should know better than to Gloat or assume we have done anything

It does matter.. because once again, few of the 'sports analysis' guys had Knicks > Nets.. Much like the fans in the General forum here.. As is the case with a bunch of other teams like Pacers 76ers Celtics etc.
They should not only want to beat the Nets in the standings, but embarrass them. And hopefully they will.

NYK Mentality wrote:First and foremost, the Nets will never be the number one team in New York. Never. They could win 16 championships, and that still wouldn't change the fact that the Knicks have the hearts of New York City. The Nets can have Brooklyn and their new arena, because the Knicks have all 5 boroughs (consisting of die hard New York basketball fans) along with the World's most Famous arena known as Madision Square Garden. This will never change.
I actually feel bad for die hard N.J Net fans who just lost their team/franchise. If they had state (N.J) pride? They've either turned their back on NBA basketball entirely, or they've continued to follow the Nets of Brooklyn. But not by choice. If those NJ fans ever wanted to pull for a New York franchise? They would've been (New York) Knick fans to begin with. For the "fans" of the Knicks who've now became Brooklyn Net fans? I'm glad, because they were never Knick fans to begin with. Brooklyn can have those types of ship jumpers.
Yes, the Jets and Giants both left New York for the state of New Jersey, but guess what? We kept our bloodline. We kept our history and roots. We kept the name New York. The name New York means more than the "Jets" or "Giants".
Picture this, although it'll never happen, the league would never allow it to happen, but picture this; Dolan sells the New York Knicks to a foreigner from Russia. That Russian owner then moves the team to New Jersey. We lost our franchise. The Knicks are no longer called the New York Knicks, instead, as a fan base? We're forced to watch the birth of the Trenton Knicks. Could you ever have a love for the NBA again? Not a chance in hell.
Long story short? When these Net fans post with a deep hatred against the Knicks? Please understand, that those guys just lost their franchise. They (deep down inside) envy us. It's more than the amount of championships too, it's the fact that New Jersey can never compare to New York (basketball wise). We've always been the mecca, and that'll never change. They envy us as a fan base, because they not only know but also understand that what happened to their NJ Nets franchise? Can never happen to the Knicks.
The Nets of Brooklyn can never hold the New York Knicks jock strap. Never. Their fancy arena can never be compared to the historic history of Madison Square Garden. The Nets may belong to Brooklyn, but the Knicks belong to New York City. All 5 boroughs.
Getting outscored 32-10 during the 4th quarter? By the Minnesota Timberwolves? That's the Nets for ya. Last but not least? How about they finish something, anything better than...
34-48
34-48
12-70
24-58
22-44
Before putting the Nets inside of postseason conversation.
I don't envy anything. Feel free to believe what you will, but I would wager about 98% of all Nets fans feel the same way I do.

where's the defense? Where's the character? Given the hype surrounding this squad, if they dont figure it out quick expect finger-pointing asap. A lot of "soft point" guys like Blatche and Lopez --- guys who have historically put up numbers, but dont impact the game in discernible ways. This team can ball tho --- and they will put pressure on squads, but its a really incomplete team right now. Dont think Avery will make it thru the year, either. It seems like he will never be the same after that Warriors upset of the Mavs in '07

Nets Admit Roster Construction Had Heat In Mind
"The Brooklyn Nets were built with the Miami Heat in mind, with their strongest positions being point guard and center where the Miami Heat are weakest. Billy King also added Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace, two players that have proven they can compete against Dwyane Wade and LeBron James.
“My thought was looking at Miami, because they were the team,” said King. “I had to build a team that I thought could compete.”
The acquisition of Wallace has been highly controversial since it cost the Nets a lottery pick that became Damian Lillard for the Blazers. Wallace also was possibly going to become a free agent and the Nets had enough cap space to sign him outright.
But the Nets needed to build a case to convince Williams to stay and Wallace was one of those pieces.
King believed that he needed a legitimate small forward, which was a gaping hole in the Nets' roster.
“It’s easier when they’ve been there,” King said of re-signing a player. “You get to know them, and they get to know you.”
Followed by a 30 point loss (tonight) to the same Miami Heat team in which A.) They built their roster around and B.) The same Heat team in which our Knicks beat by 20.

I get what you are saying but isnt every roster of contending teams built with the Heat in mind. If those three hadnt teamed up wonder if Melo would have come here to join Amare. Its a problem if you are not thinking about the Heat when constructing your roster.

i read what billy king said and was thinking "is this guy a freaking joke?" i mean, no offense really but you're trying to build a team based on Miami Heat, a team which has at least 3 Hall of Famers ? wtf was he thinking ? where in the world could he get those 3 talented players from ? Definitely not Gerald, Joe and even Deron which i doubt he will ever be inducted into HoF unless he brings BKN to the postseason and did an amazing run.

So after tonight's 30 point thrashing at the hands of the Heat, the Knicks should blow the Nets out by 50

Lets hope so. lets hope so
on the other hand, 30 is enough to rest our starters for the next game. we need our older players to rest up mostly in that case.

Re: Nets not better then knicks, time will tell!
its amazing how some people listen to the garbage the media throws and they can't help but take it on
so many people have asked me - me!! a lifer, a season ticket holder! - if I would switch to the niets now that they were in my home borough.
amazing.
others have asked me who I think, the nets or the knicks, will have the better record. they asked that with a straight face!
truth is this is an unlikeable team for the most part and not that talented.
Deron is overrated and has taken major steps backwards since his first several years in Utah.
Johnson is likable and talented and their best player but he's a little broken down and can't do it alone.
Crash is also likable and quality but not as good as people apparently think he is
humphris is a total joke. unlikable to the extreme and not very talented
Lopez is another joke. Good hands and touch on offense and garbage everywhere else.
Brooks is nice, that BU PG from Chi is scary good at times, Blatche is a joke.
Niets are an also-ran
they won't have a better record than Mil and perhaps not as good as Tor

They're a 37-45 win team. I said it before the season started and I'm saying it again now. Also, their defense isn't just suspect, its damn embarrassing. Their offense looks out of sync, their bench is unreliable, their coach is as bad as their D and their front court defense is atrocious. I don't know why the media.gave this team a pass in the off season. It was as if they were help bent on having them be a better team than the Knicks regardless of any reasoning or logic. The Nets are exactly what I thought they would be. Anyone realizing that now just wasn't paying attention or let the media get the best of them.

Honestly I never understood the crazy predictions for the Brooklyn Nets. Before preseason (and during) I read/heard all those NBA TV & ESPN guys predicting they'd be top 3 in the conference, matched up well to face the heat, best backcourt in the NBA, better than the knicks, etc etc/
For what? For getting Joe Johnson and a few role players? What makes it really WTFworthy is all the while they've been calling the Knicks dysfunctional, disjointed, etc.
I really don't get it lol... Best backcourt in the NBA? I want to believe but Joe Johnson was a dude that was amnestied, he ain't no superstar like they make him out to be. I see them possibly fighting for a playoff spot.

Could have left the "Time will tell" part out of it. They were never better than us...not even on paper.
