Rousey signed to UFC, Strikeforce to Fold Soon

Haven't actually read the article, just the title and some twitter reactions. So happy strikeforce was put out of its misery.

And no disrespect to the ladies, but really disappointed wmma is coming to the ufc. There are enough fights I don't care about these days.

Looks like strikeforce has one more event in January.

Cormier also has an opponent in there. On a nice little win streak, but I'd be lying if I said I've heard of dude.

Dion Staring.

Aaaand my interest in UFC takes a big dive. Such a dumb decision. Seems like Dana and co. have lost their touch.

What? Closing up Strikeforce and folding their talent into the UFC is the single smartest thing the UFC could have possibly done. Everyone complains about added events watering down the product, so the UFC brings in a bunch of name guys from Strikeforce. Seems like a no brainer move to me.

I think the UFC's going to start with one women's division and about 5 women and grow the female side really slow. Rousey and Tate are the only two we know are headed to the UFC, I expect Sara McMann and Cyborg to follow.

Pretty soon the ufc is going to have more champions than other promotions have fighters on its roster.

What?

I was mostly referring to the UFC adding women. I think it's stupid.

Good news, bad news.

Good news is we'll end up getting the best fighters in the world under one roof, with the exception of a few of Bellator/WSOF/One FC fighters. The bad news is that women's MMA just isn't exciting yet and more exciting male fighters will be bumped.

A possible fringe benefit for smaller orgs would be guys like Bocek, Jim Miller, Alves, gatekeeper level guys in deep divisions, getting frustrated with a lack of fights and not re-upping with UFC. We'll see if Zuffa manages the roster well, but I'm not holding my breath. If I'm Ray Sefo, I start making feelers to the management of the younger guys with upside-- Hettes, Caceres, Holloway, Andrew Craig, etc-- to gauge their happiness level at getting pushed down the totem pole.

Thumbs down on the whole women's division thing. Like you guys have already said, the UFC has a tough enough time managing it's current roster.. In regards to the rest of Strikeforce folding into the UFC, as of right now, who cares.. Wake me up when Cormier actually gets to fight for the HW title.. [EDIT: Oh yeah, I guess I'm looking forward to Gil eventually coming over as well.. But will Dana even give Barnett a chance??]

Man the UFC is in a weird place for me right now, it's lost a lot of it's 'umph'.. There will always be gems on each card from low-mid tier fighters but I can't find myself getting excited for too many of the main events.. GSP-Condit is in a freakin week and I'm barely pumped because I think it'll be a snoozer.. I'm almost more interested in seeing if Anderson will come into the ring afterwards to challenge George if he wins.

I won't watch woman fighting, I don't care if it's sexiest, I just don't enjoy it.

They better only show it on the free cards and prelims so I can avoid it and fast forward.

Dumb move.

Confirmed. He'll be in Montreal like GSP was in Abu Dhabi. GSP didn't confront Silva then because his fight was awful and Dana went into damage control mode.

I think the main reason I don't watch as much regional mma anymore is because the ufc already has enough irrelevant fights on every single card nowadays. Women's mma adds more of that same, only I won't bother watching it. Its nothing against the ladies either, but the sport is about as evolved as men's mma was at ufc 3.

^^^^All of those gifs are from one fight.

Tate vs. Rousey II should be a great grappling match, and I'd like to see Julie Kedzie take on Sara Kaufmann in a striking war.

I'm all for WMMA as long as they don't bring in too many fighters too quickly. I think that it's smart to just sign Rousey and Tate at first. I think that TUF would be a great way to introduce the female divisor while adding something new to the show to make it interesting. I wonder if fighters like Kedzie and Kaufmann would be down to be contestants.

Ronda's going to steamroll every and all the people they put in front of her.

She trains with men.

This is the UFC knowing they can market the hell out of her, and have her clean up one-off fights all while taking zero damage.

Cyborg without roids and a 135 cut is going to lose an arm.

I hope these fights stay on the free TV cards for the foreseeable future.

WMMA is in it's infancy and as exposure gets bigger, we will see more and more of the elite female athletes coming into the sport and changing the landscape quickly. Also, don't be surprised if Sara McMann gives Rousey problems.

Yes, it is in it's infancy.

Sure, maybe someone will give her troubles, but I don't see it.

And I don't mind female MMA, been liking it more and more over the years,
but I don't blame the paying fans who say this is not something they like.

I know that Rousey beat Tate in the first round, but if Tate survived for 30 more seconds, she might have won the round.

I see Rousey taking the rematch, but I wouldn't call it a streamroll. I think that Tate will be the first opponent to survive the first round against Ronda.

I think the UFC just needs to bring it along slowly and put the non-Rousey fights on free TV and they will be fine.

Agreed.

But, Zuffa is guilty of trying to force things on the fans too quickly in the past, and it has resulted in less people watching their product.

It'll be interesting to see where this all sits in a year's time.

If they need a ratings bump, they can always have Kenny Florian unretire and fight Rousey for the title.
