This hasn't been ideal.

But I must say, if you were Harden, would you blame him for playing the way he is right now? Given the lack of success every non-Delfino player has had around him, I wouldn't be looking to do much but bull to the rim and try to draw fouls either. Worst 3pt shooting team in the league, 3rd-worst team FG% at the moment, struggling badly with turnovers... I think it'd be kind of hard to fault Harden for doing what he's doing if you think it through.

If and when Lin starts to come around and not be utterly putrid, then I would expect Harden to change up his game. If and when anything at all of value could be extracted from the frontcourt, I'd expect him to change up his game. But what is he supposed to do right now? The not-Harden starting lineup is rocking a sub-50% TS and couldn't buy a bucket from downtown with their collected bi-weekly pay cheques at the moment, and Harden's got to do something: he's the only one who can.

Give it time, and hope that Morey can add some kind of talent. I think, though, that everyone kind of realized that the Rockets were a work-in-progress team as soon as he amnestied Scola and then again when he traded Martin. Not thrilled that Lamb went out in that deal either, as it happens.

In any case, my point: what else is Harden supposed to do? How can he be willing to pass when the rest of the team has been so bad? Let Morey fix the roster, let Lin stop playing abominably poor basketball, THEN see what Harden can do. Sometimes, a star player is there as a scapegoat while the rest of the team scrambles towards not-sucking.

This felt like a more positive rant in my head; just trying to defend Harden here.
