Totally surprised there are no Gilchrist comments on here. He was compared to Gerald Wallace before the draft, but no one knew he would be better than Wallace at 19 years old. Talk about a stat stuffer. Holy Hell

The game thread before all the later games aired were all raving about Gilchrist.

Some Beal highlights from the Bucks game (22 points, the game prior to having 17 against the Pacers).

Just in case people want to see how he's playing so far rather than just looking at stats.

Look at the some previous comments. A number of posters other than myself are finally picking up on him. I was touting MKG from the start of the season.

This seems strange to me.

2008 had Rose, Westbrook, Love, Gallinari, Mayo, Gordon, Ibaka, Batum
2009 had Griffin, Harden, Tyreke, Curry, DeRozan, Lawson, Jennings, Rubio
2010 had Wall, Monroe, Cousins, George, Bradley (the weakest IMO of the last 5 years)
2011 had Irving, Kanter, Valanciuanas, K Thompson, Shumpert, Faried

They have some pretty nice talent. No LeBron's but all-star calibre players.

2008 had Rose, Westbrook, Love, Gallinari, Mayo, Gordon, Ibaka, Batum, Gasol
I think an all star is worth noting.

Other than 2010 (which wasn't either 2000 horrific) those are solid and deep drafts.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

This draft does look like it is shaping up to be one of the better ones.

Davis
MKG
Beal
Waiters
Barnes
Lilard
Drummond

all have been great so far and I think Trob will figure things out and be pretty good too.

Edit: also Zeller was playing great before the elbow the other day.

Yea, they're younger
Valanciunas or Klay Thompson look as promising as most of those other names.

Waiters off to another hot start - 3/3 shooting 8 points early.

Waiters scored 8 points fast, then played little the rest of the game (didn't play in the 4th quarter) because Boobie Gibson was on fire. Strange rotations/substitutions for the cavs tonight. Finished with 8 points 3-6 shooting, 4 rebounds.

You know, I find it really particularly funny this new trend from a certain, pack if you will, of fans trying to make snarky commentary about the Blazers injury luck. Considering Rubio's knee injury last spring, Love's broken hand off a pushup, and Brandon's ever iffy knees don't you think fans of the Timberwolves, like you are, of all people should remain quiet lest they tempt the same bad luck?

Add Chase to that list. Roy took the curse to Minny.

Did Kawhi Leonard drop off the face of the Earth?

And I'd blame the super friends thing on these guys meeting in the AAU.

I don't read/visit here too often, but what's the general consensus on Barnes early in the season? I'm a big UNC fan so I've been trying to keep an eye on the UNC rookies. With Marshall buried on the bench and Henson out hurt, that's been fairly easy, but I've only caught two full Warriors games, and one of those was his first game where he played like the first 5 or 6 minutes of the first quarter, came out and sat the rest of the first half, played the first 7 or 8 minutes of the third quarter and came out and sat the rest of the game.

Saw most of last night's game, as well, but that one was just weird. I didn't think he was playing poorly, but he only logged 18 minutes. Meanwhile Klay Thompson was jacking up shot after shot and barely making 1/3rd of them while playing 54 minutes.

As a UNC fan, I'm a bit biased, but I think he has good NBA potential. I've never been one to claim he could or would be a superstar or even All-Star, but I like his scoring potential. The few bits and pieces of games I've seen, I've seen flashes of that potential, but it feels like he just gets lost in the shuffle since most of his minutes come with Curry and Thompson on the floor, and they've been shot-jacking at pretty impressive rates this season.

I actually like Golden State as a good fit for him after the draft but, after seeing a few games, I'm not so sure anymore unless Jackson starts to bring him off the bench. I know it's a lot of pressure to ask a rookie to be the primary scorer with the second unit, but the game against Cleveland he seemed to really thrive in that role for a few short minutes. They went to him on the block several times and it resulted in a made basket, a drawn foul and two FT's, and an intentional foul or it would've been another two points. He's also shown flashes of being a very good penetrator and finisher. He just isn't very aggressive right now.

Really liked the minutes Zeller was giving Cleveland off the bench before he got hurt. Came at a bad time, too, since it was in the middle of his 15 point 7 rebound game.

It was off the top of my head. Leonard is a great player IMO and I would include him there as well. I don't watch many Spurs games so he got lost in my head.

With limited minutes, (Stupid Mark Jackson..) Barnes has shown flashes of greatness. He definitely needs and deserves more time, but out dumb coach would rather play old and stupid Richard Jefferson more than he plays Harrison. Great driving game, really strong and quick. I can't wait to see him mix that in with some sharp shooting that we all know he's capable of. As the season grows older, I only expect him to show even more flashes of greatness, and for him to have a solid rookie season. I foresee him getting more attention later in the season.
