Re: The Official 2012 Nets Offseason Thread (Part 2)
Totally agree, Howard would be a Net if we hadn't of traded for Wallace.
It would've been Hedo coming along with Davis apparently so a possible starting five of something like:
Williams
Johnson
Hedo
Teletovic
Howard
On a crazy side note, if things still aren't working well for the Lakers after the new year I could see Howard getting restless with Kobe being a douche and the team not performing, Howard could still become available at the deadline.
It's highly unlikely but I know Howard definitely 1000% wanted Brooklyn and is apparently still undecided about his long term future. If LA start winning and looking real good then yeh, Howard isn't going anywhere but it's something to watch.
The main thing pushing all this is Adidas. They wanted a major star in New Yorkmto promote the brand and with Adidas being one of the main factors in Brooklyn basketball, such as pushing the Nets to go Black & White which is Adidas's main branding (ala run dmc) they have major pull. They were talking about giving Howard a $200million+ contract to promote the brand in NYC.
Now that agent sickmanbeard tweeted me that Josh Smtih is with Adidas as well it seems obvious that if Howard isn't an option for Brooklyn to help push another of there high level players towards Brooklyn.
It wouldn't even surprise me if Williams joined Adidas as well when his contract is done because Brooklyn already have Lopez & Brooks with the brand. It would surprise you how much sway a brand has in helping make moves for franchises because if a player is on a max contract the only way to make more money is through other avenues such as sponsorship deals for shoes etc.
We'll have to sit back and see what happens

Sickmanbeard LMAO!
I wonder who LaMarcus Aldridge is signed with?
I'm googling it and it seems he doesn't have any major endorsements but is sort of part of Team Nike, but not really and officially so much anymore, they haven't come out with a signature shoe for him in over a year and he doesn't seem to be listed on the official site and if he is, he's buried... Hmm...

Re: The Official 2012 Nets Offseason Thread (Part 2)
Posted this on the T&T Board and the Portland Board. Thoughts?
One very specific scenario I could envision and let me be clear, I think this is definitely farfetched as a specific 3 team and all the behind the scenes things that need to happen, but still not nearly as crazy as it sounds...
LMA wants out of Portland. Not like crazy in the press jerk style, but asks out behind the scenes and has a very specific list of teams in big markets with Brooklyn atop it and OKC nowhere near it. Portland decides to move now to further the strength of their tank for their own 2013 pick, but still wants big value:
LMA, Wes Matthews and Perkins wind up in BK.
Lopez winds up in OKC.
Toronto pick, 2 BK 1sts, OKC 1st, MarShon Brooks, Kris Humphries and Sefolosha to Portland.
This could even be expanded to a 4 team with an expiring to Portland along with a late 1st or decent B rate prospect with Hump going to a strong playoff team.

Howard isn't getting dealt at the deadline.
The Laker organization is confident that their pedigree and the pride simply in being a Laker sells itself.
They were willing to trade for Howard, who was coming off of major back surgery and is an expiring contract mainly on the belief that the pull to LA is too strong for any player to want to leave.
There's no way they're dealing him before the deadline.
The only way I see Howard leaving LA is if the Lakers lose in the first, second round, or even in the WCF. It would basically be LBJ all over again because a team as great as the Lakers should be a Finals lock. If they don't reach the Finals, D12 seriously has to look at a few factors:
1) MDA is inked for at least two more seasons after this one
2) Kobe is talking about playing til 40 and won't hand over the reigns easily
3) Nash will only get older and more injury prone
4) The Lakers can tell him to wait until 2014 free agency when they have more cap room, but not only is this the same thing ORL said, if Kobe decides to play longer than '14, he's gonna eat a huge chunk of cap space.
If and only if the Lakers lose early or get destroyed in the WCF do I see Howard thinking about leaving.
If he does, Dallas and ATL can offer max dollars and could possibly team him up with CP3 in both destinations as well.
In the most remote possibilities, the Lakers could tell Dwight to do an S&T, so they get some value back and because they hate DAL. If that's the case, BKN is back in the ball game.
On another note, I think the brand conspiracy is a bit much. If Josh Smith comes here, it won't be because of Adidas, it will be because BK found a way to get him here.

The only reason why this deal would be farfetched is simply because it's complicated.
On paper, this trade makes a ton of sense. OKC would definitely take Lopez over Perk and Sef.
Portland gets a ton of value, gets younger, and cap space (especially after Hump comes off the books).
BKN becomes a legit contender.
D-Will
JJ
Crash
LMA
Perk
Watson
Wes
Tele
Toko
Blatche
Bogans
Stack
That's an extremely dangerous team. Just bring in SVG and BK would be rockin'.

I'm 1000% telling the truth about the Adidas pull in regards Howard. He was basically promised to be made the king of NY by Adidas with an obscene new deal worth over the $200mark.
That was one of the major pulls Brooklyn had in regards Howard.
It's definitely not far fetched to think Adidas decide its best for another of their big player to find a home in Brooklyn.
Adidas apparently told Howard he couldn't go to the bulls because their other main guy Rose was in control of that market. They need a big name in the big apple to be the poster boy.
The person I was talking to in regards the Adidas stuff is legit & vince can back me up on this.
I'm 100% speculating in regards Smith because I'm taking the Howard situation and applying it to Smith but it's not far fetched, far from it.

Re: The Official 2012 Nets Offseason Thread (Part 2)
I know about the Adidas-Howard big endorsement deal. I was touting the same stuff during the Dwight saga. Although, if Adidas told Dwight that he couldn't go to Chicago because Rose, he wouldn't be with Adidas any longer.
They can try to influence a player and suggest that he should go somewhere, but they cannot flat out tell him where he can't sign. Plus, after all of those 'Dwight can't go to Chicago" rumors, Howard already said that he would love to play with Rose and that Rose is one of his friends. The endorses have influence, but they're not going to tell him he can't play in Chicago, especially if Dwight feels that's the best place for him to win a title.
Also, the big difference is Howard is a superstar and Josh Smith and LMA aren't. That was the whole reason why they wanted him in NY. If Adidas can penetrate the mecca of basketball, Dwight's presence here would be worth a lot more than $200 million (even though people don't really buy big men shoes).

Re: The Official 2012 Nets Offseason Thread (Part 2)
I don't know that NIN meant it that literally, but they probably did try to strong arm Dwight in a disguised friendly manner from Chicago and also probably told him there would be a major difference in money.
Yes, I know who NIN is talking about, we were talking about this at the home opener in line waiting to get the tickets. The furthest I will go lol, is to say he had discussion with someone in the organization that let him in to some interesting privy information the night before. I'm not talking some ticket agent or douchey PR guy either haha.

Re: The Official 2012 Nets Offseason Thread (Part 2)
You think Garnett would become available at all? I know he has a no-trade clause, but what if Boston ends up having a disappointing year (like, not making the playoffs, or 1st round exit)? They conclude the current core isn't going to get it done, and they trade Pierce. They tell Garnett that they plan on rebuilding around Rondo, and they would like to trade him. He can pick which team he goes to because of his no-trade clause.
We offer them Humphries (big expiring at that point) and whatever else to make the deal work. Boston likes the deal, KG feels like Brooklyn can win if he goes there, and everyone agrees. KG in Brooklyn would make us a contender, I'm sure of it.
Total pipe dream, or somewhat possible?

If Dwight didn't go full (Please Use More Appropriate Word) and then we hit a little luck in the lottery we Couldve had the best team in the league
Deron
Marshon/morrow
Pierce
Anthony Davis
Dwight
I forget the cap situation but we could've even potentially S&T Lopez to like Houston for the raptors pick

If we got Pierce it would've been for our lotto pick. In reality our line up without a trade & 1st overall pick:
Williams
Johnson
Wallace
Davis
Lopez
That would've been beyond sick to see. Davis is literally the best foil as a PF as Lopez could have. Then it would've probably lead to a Davis for Howard swap so the lineup would've been:
Williams
Johnson
Wallace
Lopez
Howard
Jesus that's a sick team. Flip Lopez & whatever pieces we have left for a PF that fits our need more.
It all came down to the lottery and when you realise we were so close in the sequence of numbers to getting the top pick its scary.
I love Davis's game and there's no way I'd of traded him. He's a beast and a difference maker already as a raw rookie. The team I posted above with him in it would be an awesome team with Lopez & Davis being our front court for the next 10 years.
It all came down to the lottery & we'd of had an insane team.

The Adidas thing was stated publicly by ESPN...it was no secret the endorsement deal was there in the NYC market...I still believe Orlando wanted him out of the East...before the Wallace deal was made, we had made our final push for Howard...after that it just lingered...

IMO Dwight situation not yet over
