Which I think he has a right to do, both were stupid moves on their part. Still, Smart is a coach trying to find any way to call it other than, "My fault", "Players don't fit", or "Petrie is a loon". Drafting on the basis of talent is one thing, but the key is to not let that talent fade and it's value along with it when it's time to pick your core and the right players to compliment it. Time to put a real team together and the reality is, it could be as simple as 1 or 2 moves along with either this coach putting in a proper system or finding a coach known to coach the right system for your players. When all involved come to grips with the idea that SURPRISE! Petrie put together yet another team of skilled players who need to play in a motion set, this team has a chance to become good. Petrie set 2 major needs this summer and filled neither and SURPRISE, this team still sucks at both! Who's fault is that? This deadline is going to be major for this teams chances to go somewhere over the next 3-4 years.

There are some complimentary pieces on this team. Its just a matter of finding guys who fit well together and playing them together. And the excess garbage on the roster can go shove it on the bench. Jimmer and Tyreke fit naturally together. Isaiah and Thornton have played well together. The SF minutes should be split between JJ and Salmons. Brooks, Garcia and Outlaw can take a seat and never get up again. You have your ten man rotation. When Jimmer/Tyreke are on the floor, Jimmer plays off the ball and Tyreke is the playmaker. When IT/Thornton are on the floor, Isaiah is the playmaker and Thornton plays off the ball. JJ/Salmons should never be the main playmakers, their job is to spot up and play defense. Brooks, Outlaw and Garcia should not see minutes. Keep the big man rotation the same.

Its so bloody simple. Play complimentary guys together. Define roles. Simple as that!
