I think Lakers fans really want to get excited about Morris since he's the only young guy (other than Dwight) on an otherwise old and slow team. On some young guys you can see the skills through the inevitable early struggles. I just don't see them in Morris though. You have to do more than just play man-to-man defense to be a point guard in this league, back up or not.

We don't need a volume scoring PG off the bench, we need a quick, defensive specialist that can help Nash.
That said, I wasn't able to watch the game so I have no real opinion. But just from those numbers... 5 shots isn't a whole lot, so at least he recognized his limitations, 2 rebounds from a PG on this roster might actually be pretty good...
But 1 assist does definitely seem like a failure.
I watched the game and I can tell he was completely low on confidence when it came to offense.
His defense was okay. For Parker..he had more problems due to the LAL bigs than DM.
Few shot he took did not even touch the rim.
But again, he might improve. Who knows...
ah your a smeltics fan, your opinion holds no water.
IMHO, the biggest concern I have had with the Lakers, is perimemter speed and perimeter defense. We all know Nash and Blake are not defensive gurus. You act like Morris is going to be our starter. All we need from him is to add some energy off the bench to get loose balls, get back on defense, put some ball pressure, and play some defense. Anything he does on offense will be icing on the cake. Lakers have plenty of scorers, they need more speed and defense. check

We did the same with Crittenton.

You're oversimplifying the role of a back-up point guard, Plus, you do know that there's more to offense than just scoring right?

Okay so I was trying to be reasonable but you have drag "I am xyz fan so my opinion does not count...."...
then take this...(Copied from previous poster).

I think it's pure comedy that people think Lakers fans look at Morris as anything more than a diversion on this team...
No reasonable Laker fan looks at Morris as anything more than a 3rd string PG that may get a few backup minutes depending on matchup and game management.
Stop acting like we think he's Magic in Training.
We're just surprised he doesn't completely and thoroughly suck.

i like Morris. I think he's a viable backup with upside to be a solid starter someday once his shot falls. Last nights game was not indicative of some of the really good things he's been doing and so if you haven't seen him in the last few games and think he's a scub because of last night I'd just keep watching.

D'Antoni will do wonders for Morris' offensive game.

Give the guy a break, he is a 21 year old PG that barely got to play his rookie season and he was matched up against Tony Fn Parker, not to mention he's starting because our top 2 options were currently injured with a team that hasn't had stability in coaching. Just the fact that he was able to hold his own on defense is more than good enough for me.
His offensive game was lacking but he was effectively playing 2 guard with Kobe running the point last night.

We keep saying that D'Antoni will "do wonders with (insert name here)". He's not a miracle worker you know.

Slow pace helped the Lakers all game. They looked better. For all the MWP hate, he'd be hard to replace.
What pissed me off last night was Tony Parker was interviewed by C.Webb and Greg Anthony after the game last night and said we all know Kobe loves to cheat and stays in the paint so Pop drew up a play to get the ball to Green. It gets me mad because this is so true when it comes to Kobe's defense. He couldn't change his defensive mentality for one freaking play when it mattered most.

Exactly. Last season Tony Parker went off on the Lakers. I was surprise he was able to stay in front of him , but he did it well using his size to his advantage. I liked the energy that he brought to the game, kind of reminded me of Lue in the finals vs AI. He was a pest, using his speed, quickness and size to make Parker work.

In regards to that last play. That was poorly designed execution from the get go. Pau was basically trapped in the corner and he didn't really have an angle to get Kobe the ball. Duncan did a good job shadowing that side. Metta should have just looked for Kobe just from the start.

That would be me! I liked what he did defensively against Parker. Morris was quick! He was glued to Parker like gum under a table! Every time parker attack.. Morris was right under his nose and in some cases he made Parker think twice and reset again. If Morris plays like this every single game.. i would put him on the westbrooks, the chris pauls, the irvins, etc for defensive purposes..
