Free agency tracker- who's on your list?

Post#1 » by tiger7 » Thu Nov 15, 2012 2:57 am

A complied list on Yahoo sports of all the free agents on the market. Any extra pieces you would consider for a 5th starter or to fill gaps in the DH/LF roll or would you prefer trades?

Jays have enough role players locked up and now that pitching and SS is solved no need to throw money out. Even LF will be fine with Gose/Rajai/Benefacio/Sierra fighting for jobs...... only hole is at 2B but there arent any above candidates that stick out for me in the FA market.

i think Jays will make another move, but it will be a trade...... we have too many catchers JP/D'A/Buck and there are too many candidates for LF, Jays can afford to package a couple.

im expecting a trade.... nothiong in the FA market

Except that the Jays could actually really use a power left handed bat to hit 1B/DH. Lind just isn't going to cut the mustard there. There are decent options available in free agency to fill that void. I don't think 2B is much of a priority for the Jays either - they can play Izturis there some and Bonifacio when he's not platooning in LF. Bonifacio's defense at 2B leaves something to be desired, but oh well. And upgrade in trade would be fine, but I don't know how it is on the Jay's list of moves.

the perfect answer is Melky Cabrera. Add more power to resemble the 93 Jays, plus we can get him on a low end 1-2 year deal. Do it Alex.

Swisher with Ludwick/Cabrera/Berkman as fallback plans.

This move fills LF. I'd then move Davis to platoon at DH with Lind for the start of the season. Put Gose in AAA and let him build confidence. Of course Swish can play 1st base which gives the team even more options.

Roy Oswalt was terrible this past season but his K rate was still strong. He's the type of guy I'd like to see them take a chance on with a 1 year, incentive heavy contract.

We have tolerable options in LF, 2B and DH.

What we don't have is a 6th/7th/8th pitcher types outside of maybe Jenkins. Thats what we need to somehow get.

The Jays badly need a bat, the lineup isn't nearly good enough at the moment with Lind at DH and essentially nothing in LF.

Swisher would be great, but likely too expensive. Melky would fit perfectly, I think.

+1, Left-handed switch hitter, will likely be affordable, and he is from D.R. so will have no troubles assimilating given the leadership oh his countrymen EE and Bautista.

Assuming no more huge contract, Melky or Berkman on a one year deal sounds very realistic. Jonny Gomes would also be a fantastic platoon partner for Lind.

Melky on a one year deal. His value is low and could likely be had for cheap. I doubt Berkman would even consider the Jays.

Swisher would be a great fit, but I doubt the Jays will spend to get him after the big trade.

No one. I think we still have a trade left. I could see one of the DL pitchers with upside + JPA + one of Davis or Gose being traded for a more established bat.

Cabrera would be the most economical after his PED ridiculousness (fake website included). Will he be able to hit at the same level now though?

I think a power left-handed bat is the most pressing need. With the big trade I don't see why money should be as big of a concern - it seems like AA is poised to go all-in. What about Adam Laroche? He turned down the 1yr QO so I figure he's looking for at least something in the 2yr $26M range like David Ortiz got. He would become the everyday 1B and Edwin goes to fulltime DH.

Everyone's saying Melky would be an easy sign and low cost. I'm not so sure. I personally think the demand for him is larger than we think. I'd be very surprised if he signs anything other than a one year contract.

I think Swisher is the most logical fit as Randle mentioned, considering he can play both OF/1B and is a switch hitter, however think the Jays are done with the spending.

I'm thinking Ryan Ludwick would be a perfect fit. If they want to go really cheap, offer Grady Sizemore or Jason Bay an incentive laden contract.

Melky fills alot of holes. Left Field. #2 hitter behind Reyes, infront of Bautista. Good hitter. Good OBP.

Some would argue that Josh Hamilton is the best hitter in baseball

He's the lefty power hitter we should be targeting

He wants $175M over 7 yrs. That is insane for a guy who disappears periodically during the course of a season.

Melky posted a career high .906 OPS and was an all star. I know he got suspended and all but I still don't think he'll be as cheap as people think.

He'd fit in great as the #2 though. Reyes-Melke-Bau-EE...dirty top 4.

I'd argue a Davis/Bonifacio platoon is good enough for LF. They definitely could use another good bat at DH, though. Lind has had enough chances to turn it around.

It was the steroids. We was never all that great before last year.

I say 1 year 2 mill for him.
