Small ball won't survive 82 game season
I think we need to go with Joel backing up Bosh or starting again. Whatever he takes from our offense, he will reward us twice as much defensively. UD should not play the 5 anymore as well. It's not just effort anymore but its the rotations.

Yeah I meant just in a good set rotation and setting. We should utilize him more earlier and see what happens from there.
Not worried though, clips beat MIA last season at there home court as well.

Agree. He needs to be utilized earlier to help set the tone defensively.

Anthony and Miller can't see the floor right now. It's frustrating that Spo doesn't realize that these guys make positive plays when they are out there.

PG-Chalmers 6'1"

C- Dalembert 6'11"
Problem solved. Dalembert would give you all the effort that Haslem brings in and more.

Re: Small ball won't survive 82 game season
I've never liked the idea of small-ball and i hope teams continues to take advantage of our lack of size until Riley gets pissed off enough to do something about it. We can trade Mike Miller and James Jones for Samuel Dalembert or Haslem and James Jones for Samuel Dalembert. We just need to get a starting big man. Joel is a liability on offense and slow our offense down. He's the same size as LeBron James so we might as well play LeBron at C.

we should play jort and joel more and see what they can do. i wish spo knew how to utilize everyone to the best of their abilities. i've seen too many open looks that other teams have because of over helping and trapping.

I'm pretty sure "small ball" only works when Lebron is the PF because then we're not actually going small and we have plenty of wings on this team to fill the other spots.

Very true..
Else going small means we have to collapse inside and try to gang-rebound every-time.. this leaves the perimeter open and vulnerable.. hence we get killed there..
Of-course, our effort is sub-par and we are pretty much looking to coast every game.. let our offense do the job.. we are not denying the ball effectively to the good players and not being quick enough on rotations..
The only solution for not getting beat up in the regular season would be to add a good rebounding shot-blocking athletic young big.. and big as in 6'11 legit and above.. not some undersized guy..
I would also like to see this line-up to match up against some big teams with our current roster
PG/SG - Wade/Bron
SF - Shard/Battier
PF - Bosh
C - Joel
That's line-up should eliminate at-least some of the problems..
Last night Blake was effective down low.. He struggles against length and Bosh would've been good against him.. De-Andre is gonna get his alley-oops most of the time.. no matter who is defending him.. unless we have dwight or javale or maybe drummond or leonard..
I hope they are sensible enough to implement this.. we are not losing our speed and have decent shooting out there save for Joel..

Looks good on Paper. But the Heat are not trading Udonis.

Ask yourself this question. If you're the GM of a team, would you trade your starting Center for Udonis Haslem and James Jones? C'mon, you'd laugh your ass off at that deal and keep it moving. Ridiculous proposal

Exactly.. only way we might rope in a center is if we include that 1st round pick of Philly.. along with some players.. JJ might fetch some interest because of his 3 point prowess.. also he is close to 6'8.. with decent handles.. He played well in that short stretch there.. there will always be teams looking for a player like that..
and I don't want Dalembert..
I want some-one young and quick.. so we can still be real fast on our rotations and blow by teams.. also.. helps us a lot in the long run.. can extend our championship window..
Problem is.. we are very loyal as a franchise towards our players.. else MM, JJ, Joel, Dex and UD would've been traded already.. at this point it would've been great for us if MM had retired..

I hate that its coming down to this..

There is no way that any team in the east would want to help us. The only way we get a center like that is through FA.

Re: Small ball won't survive 82 game season
1. Fact or Fiction: The Heat need to change starters to fix defensive ills.
Tom Haberstroh: Fiction. The Heat's bench defense has been atrocious thus far so I would start there, not the starting lineup. Pairing Joel Anthony with Ray Allen instead of Udonis Haslem would make a ton of sense to see if it can stop the bleeding. Haslem isn't a threat with his mid-range jumper anymore, making it harder to justify him playing over a defensive savant like Anthony. No massive overhaul necessary yet.
Michael Wallace: Fiction. The Heat have lost three games this season to three of the hottest squads in the league who have proved that beating Miami was no fluke. We're three weeks into the regular season. Relax. If these defensive lapses persist for another three weeks or so, or after 20 games, then it might be time to re-evaluate the approach.
Brian Windhorst: Fiction. The starters issue is almost always, ahem, a nonstarter with me. I have very little concern who starts. Whether you make Shane Battier a reserve or not he's going to have matchup problems guarding power forwards. Where the Heat need to start is to not allow their man to embarrass them off the dribble. That's the genesis of a lot of problems.

What I dont get is why we dont play bigs during the REGULAR SEASON like last year.
Save up these guys energy for the playoffs.... its so annoying.
Play Joel. Play Miller. Limit the small minutes now.

1) Shane is too small to play the 4 against every team in the league focus on bolded. Against certain teams like the celtics and thunder we can get away with it but those are only a handful of games. When we face the bigger teams, it forces the perimeter players like Lebron and Wade to expend too much energy trying to help Shane. Look at last night as a perfect example. This is the main reason we have been giving up so many 3s. Good coaches tell their players that when Wade leaves them to go help Shane, they should respace the court to make it harder for Wade to find them.
2) UD is forced to play the 5 when Ray Allen checks in. Ray is probably our worst perimeter defender whiles UD is our worst interior defender imo so that pairing gives us almost no chance defensively against quick penetrating guards. UD is also probably our worst pick n roll defender because he never recovers in time so that leaves three point shooters open and guess who will be forced to cover all that ground back to the 3 point shooters?
3) In an 82 game season teams will throw out big frontcourts to wear us out on the boards and in the long run those rebounds will add up and hurt our defense even more
Am not saying that small ball is a bad idea but i don't think it's smart to abuse it in an 82 game regular season against every matchup we go up against because our players will be worn out from having to protect the paint excessively and making difficult closeouts. Ask yourself this...is it worth compromising our defense just to score more points per game? I thought this team was defensive minded
