No way he is signing for a guaranteed 4 years.

Im now going with, 6/105. (17.5 per)

They don't hand out 6-year contracts - of course things can change, but i doubt it considering the risk.
hypothetically, if Johnson signed my deal and both options were exercised he would make nearly $120M over 6-years, $20M/y.

I know that everyone is excited about this trade but some of these proposals on this thread are insane. A long term deal between 18-20 million a year? Based on what? It's Josh Johnston, not Cy Young. If we offered him a multi year deal anywhere close to 20 million, Johnson and his agent would be laughing all the way to the bank. He was injured 2 years ago and last year was certainly not a year that would merit that type of contract and it's common knowledge he has lost a bit of velocity. As much as we would like to think he's a #1 pitcher, he isn't based on recent history and definately shouldn't be paid like one when he has yet to pitch one inning for the Jays.

It would be nice to lock him up but at most I would do a 5 year\75 million. Just because we took alot of salary off Miami's hand doesn't mean we have to start handing out ridiculous contracts like drunken sailors and have another Well's situation. That's really dumb short term thinking and will end biting us in the ass. Whatever happened to having a player prove his worth. Some of you want to pay him an obscene amount based on what he MIGHT do. We're not the Yankees and can't afford to dole out dumb contracts and spend our way out of mistakes.

Johnson had better career numbers than Matt Cain .... jays better lock him up before he over prices himself out of the jays budget

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
