For depth I would bring in Marcum.
If Ricky pitches like last year then you have a huge hole in the rotation.

True, but Marcum will be demanding 10 million a year, and to me, its not worth it.

i think there needs to be a stronger 5th starter now. they have spent too much. to gamble on the health and or wellness of 4 guys is risky.

what would it cost to trade for king felix? Darnaud i imagine would be automatic.

Happ will be our long reliever. But Romero should be on a short leash.

I highly doubt we will spend any more money on SP.
I would rather spend that money on Josh Johnson.

I think we have enough pitching depth (i know they 4 and 5's at the moment) in hutchison and so forth. to atleast hold the ship tight. especially with our potential batting lineup

Marcum would be nice, he's a big innings eater. Him plus Buerhle would be incredible for keeping our Bullpen healthy. Plus I like the guy, he's always just seemed like a good player to have around.

I like that AA is planning on going into the season with more starters than we need, considering it's inevitable for any team that you're going to lose at least one starter at some point.

A 5/6 to pair with Happ does seem to be in the cards, although I think it's more likely to be closer to a Laffesque depth guy than another real name addition. In fact I'd guess there'll be more like two brought in with 600-900k salaries to pitch in BUF, 'cause I can't imagine AA will be in a big hurry to turn to Jenkins or Cecil or the new Rogers at the first sign of injury. I doubt that bumps Happ out of the fifth spot, but some guys in the Freddy Garcia on the Yankees type role. Basically whoever loses out on the musical chairs for guaranteed back-end rotation spots. I think Feldman may just be a touch above that. More like Chris Young, Randy Wolf, the pitcher formerly known as Fausto Carmona (nee Hernandez), Aaron Cook, or Carl Pavano. Don't misunderstand, these aren't my choices, just the guys, among several others, whom I can see not developing a lot of interest in the market place. Assuredly, some of those guys will get real deals, but some will be trying to choose between retirement and a job that likely starts in AAA unless they kill it in camp.

Marcum has only been over 160 IPs twice in his 5 full seasons. I really like the guy and wouldn't object one bit to signing him but I doubt that I'd ever describe him as 'a big innings eater'.

Brandon Mccarthy on a 1 yr - allows him to reestablish his value in hope of getting that big multi year contract.

if romero regains his form, theres no reason to get another starter. happ is a great 5th starter. i think we need to address 1st Base/DH. I like EE at DH gave him more time to work on his hitting. I'd like to see lind go elsewhere. It worked for Hill and he regained his form in Arizona, may be another will take him on.

Exactly. You need 8-9 SP's to get through a season with injuries and ineffectiveness. Going to war without SP depth can submarine a season fast.

Fine and dandy, but don't expect too many starters to sign here if you've gotten five signed already. You'd have to convince the Scott Feldman's, Brett Myers' and Freddy Garcia's to sign here.
