KOTB: BOS/MIN - Third Time is a _____?

Post#1 » by Trader_Joe » Fri Nov 16, 2012 9:31 pm

Please explicitly vote YES or NO in your reply

Done after Dec 15th

Courtney Lee
for
Luke Ridnour, $3m

Wolves
Rubio / Sheved / Barrea
C.Lee / Roy / M.Lee
Kirilenko / Howard / Budinger
Love / D.Williams / Cunningham
Pekovic / Steisma / Amundson

Minny gets a full time SG locked up for the next 4 years. With Shved's emergence, Barrea there and Rubio coming back, Ridnour seems expendable. Lee has bulked up some and carries with him a defensive reputation and knows his role.. as a role player.

Celtics
Rondo / Ridnour
Bradley / Terry / Barbosa
Pierce / J.Green / Joseph
Bass / Sullinger / Wilcox
Garnett / Collins / Darko / Melo

Boston has a glut of undersized combo guards but no real back up PG. As shown last night in Brooklyn, when Rondo is out, they will get taken advantage of and Pierce will be forced to play PG. They have plenty of guards to take the place of Lee (including Avery Bradley who will be back at some point) but not Rondo. Boston asks Minny to throw in cash in the deal for flexibility in future deals or draft night, allowing them to now use $6m by the 2013 draft (in trade or to buy picks), as there is now a $3m cap in total amount of cash sent or received over the course of a season.

Not a fan of this for Boston. I know they've got a logjam at the 2, but the defense and shooting Lee brings is very important for them. No.

I vote yes.

Not sure than the 3mil is necessary, but, not a deal breaker anyway.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Bradley will replace his D and Ridnour, Terry, Barbosa and other's his shooting.

They just look lost w/o Rondo on the court. I saw it in pre-season and I saw it last night. I think they either hope Bradley steps in as back-up PG (he's still a combo) or plan on making a move at some point.

I vote yes also. Ridnour meets a clear need on Boston and Lee does the same for Minny. Roy's option wont be picked up barring a miracle that wont occur so Lee's contract slides right in.

I vote yes. Back-up PG is a real need for Boston, and Bradley brings most of the positive qualities of Lee when healthy anyway. Lee is an upgrade at the 2 long term for Minnesota in exchange for an expendable piece.

Yes, Lee is more of a willing defender than a good defender. Boston feels their biggest hole perfectly. Twolves adds the shooting they need.

Lee is absolutely expendable, but the Celtics biggest hole is size, not a backup PG.

I agree, but it's not say that can't be addressed in other deals.
This at least is an effective way to take care of a single need.

I think Lee is worth a bunch more. And Terry is old enough (and Bradley young enough), that he would be missed. Its not terrible, but 3m would need to be a conditional first for me to say yes -- and firsts typically go for the money +...

Sorry, I have to KOTB no. That said, its 4 yes, 2 no, so its still looking good.

I think Lee would be the last one who to be missed. Not like he is a piece for to rebuild with for the future. You have Terry who is the best of the 3 and Bradley who is the defensive player and knows the system. While lee is a nice player it seems that he is the most expendable of the 3.

I vote the 5th yes. I really like it for both teams. Boston gets their backup PG and Minny gets a well needed SG.
PG: Russell Westbrook, Reggie Jackson
SG: Andre Roberson, Anthony Morrow, Jeremy Lamb
SF: Kevin Durant, KJ McDaniels, Perry Jones
PF: Serge Ibaka, Nick Collison, Robert Covington
Cc: Al Jefferson, Steven Adams, Kendrick Perkins, Mitch McGary

As a Boston fan, I would reject because:
1) I have a feeling we would want to move one of the 5 backcourt players for a PF or C. So this proposed trade would limits our options.
2) Come playoff time Rondo will get 40 mins a night. Barbosa is good for the other mins and also has started well enough to do more in regular season.
3) Terry is 35, Bradley injured. So do we really want to lose depth. Neither Rondo or Ridnour can play SG.
4) If we were really after a backup PG we would have signed one & not Barbosa, Terry and Lee.
5) Lee has more value in my opinion.
6) Ridnour is 31. We dont want to trade a recently required young piece (back to point one, trading for position of need) for an older player who will get 12mins a night max.

So no from Boston.

Having said that it may be useful for covering injuries (well to Rondo only).
But I think Boston would want another piece coming back in order to trade.
At best this is a sideways move, (1 player for 1 player). We need to upgrade in talent or stand put.
