Last Roster Spot

Post#1 » by AussieBall » Sat Oct 27, 2012 11:58 am

So the Kings now have 14 players under contract, if I heard correctly. Will they fill the final roster spot early or wait until a need opens up? I was potentially wondering whether T Will might be brought back on the cheap. I really cannot see the need or minute availability, but he did play well for the Kings last year. I rate him ahead of Salmons, I know that much.

I do not think there is a great talent pool out there, but one player I wouldn't mind them enquiring about is Oden. He is fragile but has genuine size and would be a handy back up to Cousins. Hayes is great but lacks size and I don't know if Thompson can guard the Western Conference centres (as in I actually don't now).
The Kings will reign supreme once again...

Just no minutes and not worth the plane ticket probably. If this team wants to fill a need gap in the frontcourt it would have to come at the expense of a player already here. JT just reupped past his market value so moving him might be out of the question. TRob is too promising to ditch and Hayes is still the only thing that can remotely help this team defensively and he looked awesome against Dwight and Pau this preseason. If this team goes anywhere, someday they'll be very happy they have him to check one of those two.

I didn't get to see much of Hayes in the PS, but glad to hear that he was good against them. I still don't quite know how he defends against such bigger opponents so well.

The spot will most likely go to a center with some size. There's really no minutes left anywhere else.

It's one of those things where his size IS the advantage. Low center of gravity for lower body positioning and and form which makes him very difficult to move. When he goes up to challenge a shot in the post defensive position, his hand naturally ends up in a face guarding position for the individual shooting over him. He is also at a height level relative to his man where he is in prime position to strip the basketball and that combined with his quick hands allow him to swat down as the offensive player brings the ball up without fouling too often. He is also very nimble in regards to side to side movement.

Now, his disadvantages are obvious, due to his height he won't challenge anyone at the rim if they've broken into the paint. He's all positioning which is why I always thought he'd make a great PF compliment to Cousins.

I do have to say though that James Johnson may be able to challenge him as the most versatile defender on this team. Dude can honestly guard all 5 positions for stretches and can easily handle 3's and 4's.

The problem is that quality centers are hard to find. That is why I was suprised we didn't keep N'Diaye to develop him, at least until the contract became fully guarenteed.

Or why we didn't keep Whiteside. We just need someone who'll play small minutes and not be completely horrible.

If memory serves me right, we dumped Whiteside so that we could offer Brooks more money. I was OK with that.

Where is Whiteside now? Why no team wants him?
