KOTB: HOU|CLE|ATL

Post#1 » by SCourGe OF GoD » Tue Nov 20, 2012 7:45 am

League sources said bluntly, that anything involving Varejao is also going to have to move out Luke Walton and his $6 million ending contract and return youth and draft picks. That might be too much to ask, so it’s more likely that Varejao stays where he is, but you never know how another team may view him, especially as the trade deadline gets closer

HOU Get: Josh Smith

CLE Get: Patrick Patterson, Chandler Parsons, Tony Douglas(exp), Daquan Cook(exp), HOU 2015 1st (lotto protected)

ATL Get: Anderson Verejao, Luke Walton (exp)

Why for HOU?
They get their frontcourt set and add a core piece next to Harden

Why for CLE?
They move Andy for youth and keep their core intact of Kyrie/Waiter/their upcoming 1st rounder. They also get Luke off the books for this year

Why for ATL?
Danny Ferry gets a center next to Horford so he can slide over to his natural position and doesnt have to deal with the hassle of re-signing any of their studs.

ATL: no.

Smoove for Varejao doesn't make us better (prolly even makes us worse) AND makes us older. Making us take Walton to boot is just an insult.

KOTB: No.

I don't think Houston needs to make any moves right now, especially for a free agent. They should see what youth is worth keeping and worth trading, draft players accordingly and then see what they can do in free agency.. after that I would love to move pieces around again.

I like it for Cleveland and think Atlanta might settle on this IF Smith made it clear he wasn't sticking around.

I'd want more for Varejao than fringe prospects and non-lottery first round pick. Not to mention that Luke Walton is expiring, so moving him at the deadline shouldn't be considered much of anything. It sucks that he's on the books and makes as much as he does, but moving him at the deadline isn't that enticing. At that point you may as well let him expire since he will only have a few more months left on his contract.

Everyone's saying no but there seems to be no consensus. For myself, I have it as a little too good for HOU and CLE, and bad for ATL.

Josh Smith as a rental is going to generate huge differences of opinion as to his value. And while Varejao is playing like a mad man right now, he also played in just 25 and 31 games the past 2 years, and that's something that has to worry potential suitors.

KOTB no.

The reason that the Cavs move Walton is to increase the contract value and the return. They aren't trying to move him to clear cap space. He's expiring himself. I also see no chance that the Cavs would be trying to move Varejao for a 2015 lotto protected pick. That's one of the "Wimpy" moves.
