thoughts on Wes Matthews at the 2 spot?
OJ Mayo next year?
i like the way Mayo defends...and he can play a bit taller than he is in my estimation.
my theory: sure up the 2 spot with a decent player/ shooter/ defender and then go try to find a big fish for the 3 spot.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
Why are you guys more concerned with the 2 and 3 instead of some big man depth? Looking at the overall depth on the wing, i'd definitely prefer a quality big, if we're going to trade someone, especially if we have to give up bledsoe, who cause some damage on the wings himself (mostly at D by now, though).
Speaking of Bledsoe, I always wondered why his outside game wasn't developed that much as he was the off-ball guard at Kentucky. Don't follow college basketball, so maybe i am drawing false conslusions.

^im not as concerned about the 4/5 as the 2/3 because we have Blake/DJ at the 4/5 for the long term. Currently at the 2/3, we have good short term players but I don't think we have anybody that you could consider (long term).

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
Next off season, the Clipers will have approximately 13 million to spend, while remaining under the luxury tax ( that is with CP re-signing with the team. I could see the off season going something like this:
1. Draft day- We would probably be in the 25-30 range. Hopefully by this time we will have more of a indication of weather CP will return or not. Hopefully the Clips feel strong enough about it that they will offer Bledsoe and the pick to try and move up in the draft. I would try and target the beat two-way wing player available or a dynamic PF/C that could shoot. Utah might be interested in Bledsoe and could offer the Warriors pick, which could be in the 7-13 range. Isiah Austin is a 7 footer with a 7-4 wing span with a good jump shot. Otto Porter is a 6-7, 205 SG that has been compared to Kidd-Gilcrest. I would want to get a defensive impact player here, since we would obviously be loosing one in Bled. In the 2nd round, just simply draft the best player available.
2. Free Agency- First on the list would be re-signing CP to a max deal. Second would be using the MLE on a long term wing player. Why not go after Anthony Morrow? He is a career 44% three point shooter. Him and Crawford would make a lethal combo at SG. Other potential signings could be OJ Mayo, Dorrell Wright, Kevin Martin and others. I don't have a problem with bringing back Billups (maybe 1year/1.5million), Barnes (2years/6million), Odom (1year/3million) and Hollins (2years/3million).
The team could piece together like this:
PF-Griffin (34mpg/18ppg/10rpg/3apg)
SF-Butler (20mpg/8ppg/3rpg/38%threes)
C-Jordan (28mpg/12ppg/9rpg/2bpg)
PG-Paul (34mpg/18ppg/12apg/2.5spg)
SG-Morrow (28mpg/12ppg/3rpg/44%threes)
SG/SF-Crawford (28mpg/17ppg/3rpg/40%threes)
SF-Barnes (20mpg/7rpg/5apg/1spg)
PF/C-Odom (18mpg/7ppg/5rpg/1bpg)
PG-Billups (14mpg/5ppg/3apg/40%threes)
C-Hollins (10mpg/4ppg/3rpg/1bpg)
PF-Thompkins (6mpg/2ppg/1rpg/38%threes)
SF-Rookie (brought along slowly, playing behind vets)
PF/C-Rookie (2nd round pick)
14. Rookie free agent
Also, this scenario is assuming Grant Hill retires. This roster would have defenders (CP/DJ/Barnes/Rookie), shooters (Morrow,Crawford,Billups,Butler) and post players (Griffin/Odom/Jordan).

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
Why would you want to start a SG who can't defend or handle the ball next to Paul, when you have Jamal Crawford off the bench? If the team is going to go out and get any SG, it should be a guy who can defend well on the wing.
Billups likely won't come back to play 14 MPG, and I'm not even sure if he will be back at all, might be retiring after this season. Odom of course is going to have to prove to the team that he should be re-signed, but he's certainly not there yet. Hollins has a one year contract, whether he'll be back is up in the air.
I think we are getting a little ahead though, let's think of ways to improve for this season first. The obvious best trade chip this season is Bledsoe, and in packages, Bledsoe + Butler, or Bledsoe for DJ if the stakes are higher. That will be the first thing looked at if the team is struggling and trying to improve.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
I know that the Clips could use help up front especially if Odom doesn't become productive soon. Perhaps they should bring Martin back. If not Martin, than maybe McDyess- Dice and Chauncey are very close friends.
As far as the back court. I've noticed that Anthony Morrow is out of the rotation for the Hawks. For some reason, Drew must think that Korver is actually better than him. I've always been a huge fan of Morrow going back to his days of lighting up the Clips when he was on the Warriors. The Clips could use another reliable 3 point shooter- I'd certainly rather have Morrow than Green. Perhaps Sacks should get the Hawks GM on the horn and see what he wants for Morrow.

Trade idea before the trade deadline (not sure if this has been posted yet)
Clippers trade Lamar Odom
Magic trade Al Harrington
The Magic are in rebuilding mode and with Odom's expiring contract, it will free up cap space. The Clippers get that forward who can stretch the floor.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
Al Harrington is 32 and will be paid for another 2 seasons after this one, aren't you a little worried about the fact that he limits the teams flexibility, and while he has some good traits, he's a poor defender at PF and hasn't shot a really good 3PT% since 08-09 as a Warrior. Barnes can double as an undersized PF, do a few more things than Harrington, though he can't shoot and score as well as him, but he's 6 times cheaper.
Clippers are in the position where you don't want to bring in $7+ million worth of contract for two years, just to see if a player can help. Any big contracts need to be guys that fill specific roles and will play big minutes. Harrington can't backup PF and C, so he will be a SF/PF backup, and there's no minutes on the wing, and few backup minutes behind Blake.

According to current reports, Kenyon Martin will accept the vets minimum now. I think the Clips should seriously think of signing him because the more I see Odom play, the more I think he is washed up. I want to believe otherwise, but my eyes and rationality tell me the truth so far

I wouldn't trade Bledsoe for a pick in this draft at all. Now 2014 when butler is a free agent and that draft is stacked with sfsthen. I don't think Bledsoe is worth a project big when you guys already have the position locked up.

We should try to get Derrick Williams from Minny.
Maybe they'd take Caron and next year's first rounder for Williams. He's rotting away in Minnys bench.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
a pick and caron for a 6-8 power forward? i don't even think the money would work, but if i may, i would give them odom and that's it. derrick williams is a tweener at best and undersized PF in reality. with griffin signed on long term, the best williams can do for our roster is to take odom's playing time. besides, i believe for the future if we are trading for a younger big on cheaper contract, we need a guy who can back up both DJ and Griffin, not just blake.
ehhhhh f it.

Re: Trade Idea Thread II
Do you think we'll be interested in Anderson Varejao? We could entice them with DJ (a younger player to develop with their core) + a filler (maybe Thompkins and a protected first rounder?)
If we're in win-now mode, I think it's a move the front office has to at least discuss. Of course it'd be a tough sell to Blake but if it means placating CP3 then it might be worth it.
