Jordan Hill's Ceiling?

Obviously we all love him for the energy he brings to the game, but he also seems to have a ton of untapped skill. I feel like if he were to put more work toward perfecting his shot he could have a very consistent mid-range jumper ala Brandon Bass. Also, his post game seems pretty raw, but it is surprisingly effective. I see no reason why he couldn't be a 14-16/8-10 guy in the league. What do you guys think?

He's been balling out there. He looks better than Gasol at times. He suprisingly got some post up moves now and been hitting his jumpers. I just hope this cat can stay healthy, because he has been playing like a great 6th man off the bench.

Those are basically prime Horace Grant numbers. In no way, shape or form do I see Jordan Hill approaching that level of performance. Love the guy, though. He's what I hoped Ronny Turiaf would become.

I think we're seeing it right now. I like the guy but his jump shot and post moves are nothing to write home about.

If he was a starter and played 30+ mins every night.. 12 and 8 I would say.

His offensive game looks rushed and ugly yet he gets a surprisingly good percentage with it.

Not really. From expecting nothing to actually showing more improvement from last season, I'm fairly surprised. Don't try to make this of comparing him to Durant. He has shown improvement. :lol:

He has fantastic mobility, but strength on the interior. His hook shot left or right impressive. And he doesnt hesitate on the shooting the jumper. Dude has heart and attacks the rim with serious agression. And wants to rebound with strength!

I am contracting this guy up longterm if im mitch. DO IT MITCH! And I dont think mitch is gonna hesitate with this guy, he is that good with tremendous upside.

Opposing defenses aren't used to laker bench players that don't shy away from contact. Hill's willing to take into the post and ot the rack and not settle for jump shots like Pau does or McRoberts/etc did last season, and it's a huge help and adjustment for defenses. Hill is better than we think he is but I think those numbers you posted are a bit too much.

did you ever watch Stat ca 2004-05 in Phoenix pre injuries? Dude was ridiculous and Hill is not nearly that explosive. Also a since Amare is pretty much all offense now, I still don't get the comparison. That being said, if he learns a mid range jumper he'd be more comparable and more valuable to us. Gotta love a big that hustles off the bench.

Why couldnt he? His per 36 numbers indicate he is a walking double double easy. If they can help him get that midrange right he will be easily a Horace Grant like guy.

you clearly never saw the horace grant that played for the bulls. hes in another dimension as an offensive player compared to hill.

First off did I even say that he was on his level? Another thing lets not sit here and act like Horace Grant was some prolific offensive player. The dude was the perfect glue guy that could hit the consistent midrange. That was his the extent of his offense. He wasnt a great post guy(probably due to lack of use more than ability) and was a great offensive rebounder. Hill fits these credentials. As I said, IF, the keyword being IF he gets a midrange similar or close to Grant's he would be that type of guy.

Grant's best year per 36 min: 14.5ppg, 10.2reb, 1.6 blks on 58% FG

Hill this year per 36 min: 14.8ppg, 11.2 reb, 1.3 blk on 47% FG

Dont see much of a difference production wise expect for the shooting.

you can not extrapolate numbers to per 36, thats not how it works. jordan hill has never played more than 16 mpg his entire career, to assume that hes going to be able to keep the same level of production given double the time is beyond ridiculous.

The title of this thread is ceiling dude. I for one didnt say he was on that level only that he could be based on getting a reliable jumper. As active as Hill is, it isnt a stretch to believe he can average 10-11 rebs a game. Its not like Im saying Earl Clark has Lebron potential. The comparison is fair and you really havent brought anything to the table to go against it. You went as far to make a statement to insinuate that Grant was a great offensive player when he was nothing more than a scrapper and great midrange hitter on teams with some of the greatest scorers in history.
