Re: The Bismack Biyombo Thread
Give me five centers that are actually better than Chandler. I had him at #3 at the end of last season. Don't say Hibbert or I might laugh too hard.

Gasol, Bynum, Howard, Noah, then maybe even Jefferson, Horford as well.

Re: The Bismack Biyombo Thread
Howard and Bynum (only when healthy) are a given.I can see how people rate Gasol and even Noah higher than Chandler, but neither play his level of defense and neither is as efficient on offense. They produce a bit more and are better passers, but they play less efficiently. Jefferson's a terrific offensive player, but unfortunately for him, there are two sides of the game. Horford is a power forward playing out of position, and he isn't the defender Chandler is. What sets Chandler apart from most other centers, is that only Chandler and Howard (and Garnett, but he isn't a center) anchor a team's defense really, really well. His level of defense is more important to the position, in my opinion, than say, Al Jefferson or Dwight Howard's offense.

Really good shot-blocker very good all-around defender, at least decent elsewhere. Biyombo isn't anything special on the boards, but neither is Ibaka and I think Biz has some promise offensively. Ibaka has really improved there this year.
I don't think Ibaka or Chandler are top 5 players at any position. While they bring excellent defensive performance, that performance is handicapped by anemic offensive production. This is what I call the "Bruce Bowen" syndrome. Only stunningly good defensive players can pull this off and there have not been many. Bill Russell did it. Mutombo did it. Mark Eaton in his hey day could do it. That's about it.
I'd take Howard, Hibbert, Bynum, Cousins, Lopez, Monroe, Bosh just off the top of my head over Chandler. There might be a few others. I'd probably take McGee over Chandler also. While he still makes bonehead plays, he has the highest PER rating amongst centers. Chandler is #20.
And at PF - while Ibaka blocks shots he's actually not a great defensive player. He has alot of lapses on defense. I'd take Duncan, Davis, Griffin, Randolph, Gasol, Aldridge, and possibily Millsap over Ibaka. Ibaka is similarly low on the PER ratings - at #18.

I'd say all of them could be centers except for Gasol. He's too mamby pamby to be called a center.

Pau is a natural Center but due to his passing he was the ability to play the 4. The Lakers have needed him there since both Bynum and Howard are definitely not forwards.

Since when has passing ability been a requirement for playing the 4?

Nba awards and the nba spots on the Olympic team are as much about popularity as they are about talent. Crash became the only player since David Robenson to average 2 blocks and 2 steals for an entire season. He was barely even nominated for DPOY that year.

You had him top 3? Last year this guy only average 9 pts. 9rbs. and 1.4 blocks per game. He finished the year 16th in defensive rebounds, 12th in total rebounds, 16th in blocked shots, and didn't even make the top 20 in steals yet won defensive player of the year. If he played anywhere else other than New York he would not have been in the discussion for DPOY. As far as Hibbert goes, Chandler is a vet, but.... Hibberts stats are a little bit better than Chandler's was his fifth year.

Re: The Bismack Biyombo Thread
Biyombo is a different type of Center. He is not the type of center who you pay big bucks because he is going to get you 18 and 11 each night(Al Jefferson or Hibbert) but he is more of a guy who is going to grab rebounds, block shots, anchor a defense and set great screens (Chandler, DeAndre, and Perkins). I do not think he is ever going to be a Dwight Howard type player, but I do not see why he couldnt be just as good as Chandler, who didnt even get good until his 6th or 7th season.
At worst he is going to be a like a Theo Ratliff, who comes off the bench and dominates defensively for stretches of games.
Remember he is only 20 years old. Lets give him a few more years before we decide he has no future.

No one has decided he has no future. I've simply pointed out he does not appear to be making much progress.

Kembas much better than both of them, so you still messed up.

Re: The Bismack Biyombo Thread
I refuse to even argue with Raptor fans because I thought Jonas Valančiūnas was a good pick for them the same way I thought Kemba Walker was a good pick for the Bobcats. It's too early to predict the success that either will eventually bring to their respective team, but being a avid follower of the Bobcats I'm pulling for Kemba to become a great player. I could care less what Val become, but I wouldn't be overtly surprised if he become a All-Star 5 years from now.

Re: The Bismack Biyombo Thread
They were lucky to have Jonas still available though. He was a good pick, whether BPA is yet to tell. I have no problem with that, but boy they overhyped him on GB all season in which he didn't play. But maybe our Detroit friends are right and they should actually take Knight.
For the record I haven't give up on Bismack, he may still have a good season moreover the career. Wait till January to write him off and call this season a struggle. He started on wrong foot last season as well.

you have to think that the cats would have drafted val at #7 ahead of biz if val was on the board.

The way you guys hyped "Val" he has actually been rather disappointing.

Re: The Bismack Biyombo Thread
Bismack looked like a force tonight, I really hope that he builds off of tonight. He was grabbin boards, dominating the paint, just would like to see him be more aware of other players around him. Poor effort tonight by all bigs as far as boxing out is concerned. Still, he shows great promise, just feed the big man!
Mike Malone was never given a fair chance in Sacramento, and Ranadive will soon come to regret that, when he's on top of the WC inevitably contending somewhere

Biz was a +11 tonight, higher than anyone. I can't believe how good he looked.
