Daye

Post#1 » by retrolenny » Thu Nov 22, 2012 1:15 pm

I know some of you are thinking it but I'm going to say it...

Daye has done well in limited action this year. I do not believe that CV deserved playing 10 minutes yesterday but Daye has definitely made the case that he should be given a few minutes. I am not sold on Mag, nor am I sold on JJ and if Daye can figure it out the rest of the year then we got a lot more to gain then lose. His defense has not been terrible, he's a pretty decent shot blocker, and most importantly, in the limited minutes he has played, his shot seems to be dropping.

On a side note, I don't know why Frank has opted for Bynum over English. English deserves those minutes..

Knight(32)/Stuck(16)/Bynum (Sit next to CV)
Singler(20)/Stuck(20)/English (8)
Prince(30)/Daye(10)/Magg(8)
Max(18)/Moose(18)/JJ(12)
Moose(20)/Drummond (24)

This is the relegation of minutes I'd like to see!!! I think everyone would be ok with this except the Bynum lovers but the guy doesn't understand team basketball..

Thoughts?

I would rather see English or Middleton get time before Austin, but I agree that Daye should be ahead of CV in the rotation

This.
Both Daye and CV have proved they shouldn't get any minutes. Both have English and Middleton have done the right things so far.

yeah we should try putting DNP-CV or daye in the rotation for jerebko, we need the spacing.

Bynum, Daye, CV, and Jerebko. None of these guys should be in the rotation. I really don't care if Daye and CV are on the bench as they don't play, but I'll be so happy when Bynum is finally off this team. And I'm starting to feel the same way about Jerebko.

I'm really tired of the Pistons overvaluing energy guys. Its to the point where I think they value effort more than production. Sure Bynum and JJ try hard, but they don't produce, so who cares how hard they try? This isn't field day where everyone who gives effort gets a blue ribbon. I think I dislike Bynum more than any other Piston in history.

And now the fans are so desperate that they're asking for Daye to get minutes. The guy shouldn't even be in the league anymore.

I would rather play with 4 players at all times.

I would rather any possible minutes given to Daye or Chuck V be added to Drummond and split between English and Middleton. The book has been written on Austin and Charlie, they aren't who we thought they were. Let them both kick rocks.

I think Daye showed flashes until last year. Not sure why he couldn't grow but I'd certainly like to give him one more chance over JJ & Magg. Neither JJ or Magg will be with us in 2014. Even though Daye seems to have sealed his fate here, he has lotto ticket potential.

Should have been let go and we should have signed Terrence Williams

Daye had his chances and he blew them. I've always lived by the 3 year rule for rookies:

1st year = don't expect much cause they're rookies :)
2nd year = some expectations because they have some experience
3rd year = put the experience of the first 2 seasons into practice and start ballin'

I realise certain players and situations are different but that's the general rule with me. If after 3 seasons the player has shown very, very little except the ability to fall at every hurdle the dude needs to pack his bags and get out of town... where they might get another season or 3 to show and prove

Daye has talent... he could be a player... but there is something in his head that holds him back. I hope he figures out what that something is because he has a lot of tools and it would be a shame to waste them.

It won't happen in Detroit though - dude needs to go

If I were Frank, Id give Daye 10 minutes at PF to see if he can hit a jumper instead of using Jerebko as a spot up 4 since we already know that Jonas cannot shoot. He's averaging 2 three point attempts in 17 minutes. If Frank wants a shooter, use a shooter not Jerebko.

I don't want to hi-jack the thread but can someone tell me what the And 1 thing is after every post?

That's new... well, it's probably 4 years old but it's new to me

The "And One" is the equivalent to the Facebook "Like" button. Lame if you asked me!!!

Going back to Daye, JJ is losing value every day for the way he is being played. While I agree that Daye has been a bit of a head case, it's not because he is a problem... It's because his pysche got the best of him last year.

Daye has the ability to do 2 things for us this year...

1) He put on weight and can really stretch the floor. Something we are sorely lacking this year.
2) Even if he does show his worth, he probably already outstayed his welcome but that doesn't mean that he can't become an asset before the trade deadline if they give him one more shot and he finally puts it together.

I have more critical of Daye than probably anyone on this board.. You can check my previous posts to confirm but I just have this feeling that we are making a BIG mistake by not giving him one last chance. I'm usually dead on regarding my gut. See my posts about the Iverson acquisition for example. You guys were boasting about Iverson and I thought we just destroyed our team.

We are not winning right now and I would sit Maggs, JJ, & Bynum and I would increase the minutes of Drummond, let Daye & English earn their way into the lineup.

Seems like many of us on here think his "take a while to figure this out" time period has been expired for quite some time.

Id always been Austins biggest fan but he hadnt lived up to my expectations and truth be told, I was giving up on him. Im happy that he's having a good season and hope he keeps it up. He deserves his place in the rotation, where our a better team with shooters on the floor.

And, I think we can all say definitively, what most of us knew, that Daye >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> T. Williams & Jonny Flynn

Daye should be traded immediately. This isn't the first time hes played well. He is incompetent at every other aspect of the game. All he is doing is boosting trade value and nothing more.
