Adam Lind on the Jeff Blair show

Post#1 » by YogiStewart » Fri Nov 23, 2012 5:30 pm

kind of shocked that no one posted anything about this interview. it was really quite telling.

Lind gave some great quotes about Farrell. i apologize if my quotes aren't bang on.

-Farrell worked for the Blue Jays, but never acted like he WAS a Blue Jay
-Gibby should give an advantage on the base paths. catchers call for stolen bases at more opportune times instead of running with your head cut off (pretty sure that's the quote) like Farrell did

he had one more quote that showed that Farrell won't be missed. forget what it is. if the audio comes up on the FAN, someone should have a listen. it's worth it.

Sounded like he had a personal vendetta against Farrell. Usually players would give the politically correct answer, because you never you if would end up with Farrell in the same organization down the line.

farell is honestly a joke, how can you respect somene like that, gets his first manager job then after the first year when he sees boston needs a manager he becomes disintersted in jays then in his second year just doesnt care? then he gets his boston job and jabs the jays by saying "i got my dream job" i love when they asked gibby in his presser "is this your dream job?" lol that was great..but anyways ...i used to be a red sox fan back when they beat yankees on there run to world series but with farell there as skipper i have a big reason to root against them...LETS GO JAYS

I've seen Lind interviewed a couple times and have never been all that impressed by him, he always appears to be so snarky with a can't wait to finish the interview mentality. To me this appears to be more of a passing of the buck, get the focus off of my dismal past couple seasons and onto the manager who doesn't know how to manage (which may very well be true). My mentality has always been unless you are doing your job well, you're in no position to criticize somebody else on the job they're doing.

Doesn't Lind have a vendetta against every manager he plays for?
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

A partial written summary is on Sportsnet too

http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/2012/11/23/lind_talks_farrell_romero_buehrle_on_fan590/

I love the last line when talking about Farrell -
It's somewhat disappointing for a guy like me or a guy like Casey Janssen who has spent our whole career with the Blue Jays and fighting the Red Sox, trying to pass them in the standings. It's like man, "would you be a Blue Jay instead of a guy working for the Blue Jays."

Yeah, I heard the interview on the radio.

"It's like man, would you be a Blue Jay instead of a guy working for the Blue Jays."

That line is kinda lame, but awesome at the same time. I love it, hehe.

I was also a little surprised he said Ricky doesn't have it in his DNA to be a leader. His initial point about young guys having to fill roles they aren't ready for, and Ricky only having 4 years of service time makes sense, but saying that leadership isn't in Ricky's DNA is kind of a strong statement.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.

The way i interpreted it is that he was just saying, somewhat awkwardly, that Ricky didn't have it is DNA to be a 'natural leader', and that he needed more time time and experience to develop leadership traits. Otherwise it doesn't really make sense and is contradictory.
