Changes you would like to see?

Post#1 » by Keith Van Horn » Fri Nov 23, 2012 10:06 pm

Please make your assessments off the current squad. So this means no fire Avery stuff and no trade scenarios.

I just wanted to see what everyone else thinks should be done differently now that we're 10 games into this young season. I also want to see if we can make a consensus list of changes that should happen given this team.

1. Marshon should be the first man off the bench (if he's not starting).

2. Don't play CJ and Deron on the floor together at the same time.

3. Don't play Deron at the SG position.

4. Don't have a lineup of only 2nd unit players.

5. Give Childress's minutes to Teletovic.

6. Stop with the funky lineups and get a regular rotation.

Here's another idea to toy with -- what about a starting "small-ball" lineup like the Knicks have been doing?

DWill
Marshon
JJ
Wallace
Lopez

1. Stop going away from Lopez after his Dirk like 1st quarters.

2. Stop playing Deron at the 2 more then a handful of plays a game. The guy is pretty much the 2nd best point guard in the game and yet the ball is taken out of his hands a ton.

3. Start running a lot more pick and roll and more plays in general. Way less iso.

4. Play Tele 10 minutes a game as an offensive spark plug.

5. Much, much, much, muuuuuuuch less Blatche and please for the love of god stop isoing him so much and yank him with the quickness when he goes into Magic Odomson mode. Needs a short leash.

6. Use JJ different. Run more plays for him, put him in better position to utilize his dynamic skill set. His game has never been super efficient and he's had the ball in his hands almost exclusively the last 4 years but he needs to be used more off screens, pin downs and back cuts. Also, I like him isoing when leading the second unit, stop going to Blatche and even CJ when he's out there with them when Deron and Lopez are on the bench. Sure a lot of JJ's struggle have simply been him missing shots, but A LOT of it has also been his complete misuse. He's tall and strong so trying to post him some is decent, but he's so much better off the bounce or coming off ball for jumpers and catches in the paint on the move.

7. Push the god damn tempo!

8. No more all bench mob second units for extended periods, or really ever. I never ever want to see a CJ, MarShon, Stack, Blatche, Evans lineup, ever again, especially for 3 or 4 solid minutes at a clip. Awful awfulness.

9. Less Stackhouse. I think he's a fine low minute rotation player, but he's way overused.

10. Completely bench MarShon until he can play good defense and do anything well other then beast in transition.

Let D Will play ball.

Stop using him as a SG and let him be our ball handler.

More pick and rolls, we should be running a simple system to take advantage of our match up problems for teams all over the floor. Pick and roll all day for D Will and let him just run the show like he did when he was traded her and he was running Utah plays without Avery's involvement, dude was getting 20+ assists a night with wide open shots being missed by trash players.

Play Teletovic because we are really wasting a talent who needs to be helped, I sure as hell would trust him more than I trust Johnson or Wallace to knock down an open shot.

I understand people think Teletovic is a bad defender but he has played zero minutes of note yet so he just hasn't had an opportunity. I'd love to see him with Lopez just to stretch the floor and leave Lopez to go to work in the paint and create more space on the offensive side of the ball. People will argue who will argue but we have size all over and I believe it would be fine, anyway it'll never happen but i'd love to see how it goes.

We never use pick and roll, Lopez should be rolling to the basket with Deron making all the decisions.

More 2 man game with Johnson and Williams to take advantage of the mismatches.

But the main thing for me is to let Williams rock and roll, set big picks and let D Will go to work. I rewatched the Spurs game (think it was the 2nd game he had after being traded to us) and the dude was straight balling, driving the basket and dishing, breaking ankles and making the spurs double then dishing it for the open man to miss an easy bucket. Let Williams go to work!!

Keep the ball in Williams hands. At all times.

Pick and rolls/Pick and pops with Williams/Brook

Give Brook the ball more on the go

Pick up the tempo and pace. The fact that the Nets had zero fast break points last night is an absolute disgrace.

Less Stackhouse, more Marshon. Why one of the team's best offensive talents is glued to the bench is pure idiocy.

Give Teletovic a chance in spot minutes to stretch the floor a bit. The lack of spacing and shooting on the floor at times makes it VERY EASY for the defense to stop the Nets "offense".

And for god's sake, stop posting up JJ all the damn time.

1) give Lopez the ball in the post as much as possible. He is dominating and will either get a ton of points or put the other center on the bench. That is the way he can play great d is by putting the starting center ifoul trouble.

2) please play marshon more, he is one of the best pure scorers in the game and they barely let him play. When he came on against the kings he showed why he should play.

3) stop isos when things aren't going their way. Keep running the plays that got them there.

4) i would like to see teletovic play a little. They spent the money on him they should give him a chance

5) stop playing Joe Johnson with the second unit. It doesn't work and he looks to iso too much. Play marshon instead and a full second unit and have them run plays.

1. Avery Johnson fired.

The rest are in no particular order:

2. Deron Williams being allowed to be Deron Williams.
3. Brook Lopez deeper in the post. Don't say it's not possible, because when Frank it was a fairly routine sight...
4. MarShon Brooks back in the rotation.
5. Teletovic in the rotation. I noted his defensive shortcomings way before most, but when the alternative to Teletovic is Blatche there is no excuse to not play Teletovic. Teletovic's shooting can be game-changing.
6. More creative offensive sets / less isolation plays.

1) Stop playing D-Will like a 2 guard for long stretches...its just not necessary, so many of you have said it already and its really starting to irritate me on top of the fact DWill is being completely misused...does anyone have Jerry Sloan's number? If so tell him to call Avery asap! Deron is being strangled at this point...I just do not get how this has not caused waves internally...

2)Play TELETOVIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! from what I understand he is basically being ignored at this point...7-10 minutes means less bench, Childress, Stackhouse and when the situation suits it, give him some Blatche minutes and play Reggie at the 5...

3)SAY NO TO ISO...

4)Its getting better, but Brook needs to be used relentlessly, every which way about it...he is averaging 30min per game, come on now...Like the above 3, not one game has gone by without me saying once, why hasn't Brook been put back in...ridiculous

5)Marshon out of the rotation... again, I understand this kid's limitations, I have a very good idea how he should be used but its not a DNP...

Last but not least Magic Odomson mode....my wife just asked what the hell I was laughing at, definitely funny...and though I agree to a certain extent, your oblique position dances the line of hating unless I missed the post where you paid homage...

We'll leave that discussion for a different thread (please  )

Well over the past few games Avery has stopped playing Watson and DWill together, and I haven't seen DWill play SG at all in that time either.

However... I have seen Crash bring the ball up court sometimes but the ball always gets back to DWill when the offense gets going.... not sure what to make of that.

I still think you have to work MarShon into the rotation because Stackhouse can't keep this up and at his age is a big injury risk.

Stop running deeon off screens, he's not ray Allen.

Out perimeter players are having no problems getting open looks, no need to get the same shot he can always get but with him tiring out and not looking at the rim.

Why would you change anything now? Marshon hasnt proven he's able to hit the corner 3.

Ignoring Lopez for huge stretches then force feeding iso's with 8 on the shot clock

He's got sweet spots, the angled 18 footer, straight away 8 foot jump hook, baseline push/floater

Agree with #2 and #4.

I disagree very , much with #1. I dont want brooks to play 1 single minute. He is exactly what we dont need. right now we play the game about as turnover free as you could hope, take few bad shots, the collective bbiq is through the roof and we compete on defense for 48. why would you bring in a guy who does none of that?

changes id like to see:

1. start the offense earlier. run the flex more. its almost always succesful at getting a good look. and we have bigs who can shoot the elbow J. should be more prominenet then it is.

2. press opposing points once they come over half court. it brings their pick and roll out further and gives our bigs more time to rotate and get in position.
