Ersan Revisited

Post#1 » by fsunoles46 » Fri Nov 23, 2012 3:27 pm

Surely this has been broached already but I haven't seen any recent talks about it. How is everyone handling Ersan Ilyasova? I'm in a 13-team roto league and I definitely cant do better than Ersan if he pulls it together like last year but I'm starting to worry that, once he does snap out, he'll struggle to regain his minutes in such a clogged frontcourt. The Bucks aren't exactly big-time TV in North Carolina so I haven't had much chance to watch him live either.

My options are:

1. Cut losses now and start experimenting with guys with mediocre fantasy upside (Seraphin and Bledsoe come to mind)
2. Hold him but be ready to cut line in case of a drop or major injury that boosts a FA's minutes (my current strategy)
3. Bear it for a couple more weeks and monitor

Any advice is appreciated, I'm sure many of you are in the same boat.

Last year was an anomaly, IMO. He shot 45% from three when his next highest 3pt% for any other season was 36%.

^ i agree with that, i dont expect him to be one of the top 3 pt shooters again this year but man, id love to see him just string together a few efficient 12/8 games just to show some potential and stop henson, sanders, etc. from taking all his minutes

I'm hanging onto him and hoping he breaks out of the slump or gets traded to another team.

You need to drop him in order to move forward with your team. That guy is going to continue to hold you back.
I selected him in the 4th round...and I am barely hanging on to the 1st place spot (10 plyr league) in one of my leagues.
He is getting 15-16 min per game....and i can see henson picking up a lot of minutes. Ersan got his contract and he's done.

So it's getting to that point in the season where a lot of teams seem to abandon their drafted injuried players, like Bogut, Gordon, Amare ect. To this point I've always thought of Ersan in the same boat seeing as he's been about as useful as someone in street clothes.

He had his best game a few nights ago coming off the bench for the first time but tonight he seems to be the last man off.

I hate to stick with him in such an unstable situation but I don't just want to drop him for any warm body in the FA pool. At what point do you give up on this guy?

Ersan IS going to ruin your team. He must be dropped. Trust me. He's not there and he's playing with no motivation. He doesn't ask for the ball, defense is mediocre at best, just stands around pretending he's playing.

Like I said before....he received his contract and he's done. Bucks have good big men in their team that can score and grab boards, so Ersan is no longer needed. Drop him and don't ever look back.

What happened tonight? Did he get a DNP-CD?

I got Dion Waiters for my Ilyasova. But unfortunately I already have Ellis, Wes Matthews, Afflalo and DeRozan.

He has to be the biggest disappointment this year

Yep, he's gone from my team after last night. Starting to see more injuries/slumps and since I'm already stashing Wall, can't afford to keep Ersan

im holding on to him but he's killing me. Drafted him in the 5th round too. Such a disappointment. I'm in first in my league but he needs to step it up.

He's a sunk cost. And it's not like he's even a proven commodity, particularly young or extremely athletic. Fluke Rule season last year. Why are people holding onto him? One of the most important parts of fantasy is knowing when to cut the cord.

Larry Sanders is the dude you want.

People who are holding Ersan are chasing potential that's not there this year.

I dropped him a week ago and missed out on his BIG game-darn. Would have been on my bench anyway. I'm starting to think that Gooden will have more value going forward.

Was just about to drop him until I saw he got 34 minutes tonight and finally did something.
