I don't think that it's possible to search for records in halves at basketball-reference, but I think this is the most points we've scored in a quarter and in a half:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/box ... 60CHA.html

I actually might do a video on it some day, it could maybe serve as a teaser when there are only a few days left until the start of the season.

I wouldn't even have thought of the fact that it was a franchise record.

they mentioned it like 5 times in the broadcast. seems uncle steve is doing a pretty good job lately of pointing out records and near records. maybe he has this thread bookmarked. haha.

I saw the game through the Hornets feed which, by the way, had Joel Meyers (called Lakers games with Stu Lantz after Chick died for a few years) and David Wesley. They seemed like a solid announcer duo.

Kemba just tied the franchise record for steals with 8.

8's the official number, but I think I counted 9 or 10.

Yeah, I was going by the box score on NBA.com. I thought he had more.

updated for kemba's 8 steals. shame the official box score only had him at 8, which just ties record. he definitely had more than 8.

Question...if we go back to the Hornets...would you add 1988-2002 Charlotte Hornets records to the team, similar to what the Cleveland Browns did? I think you would have to.

No, we'd be the same franchise with a different name. The "Hornets" records belong to the team currently in New Orleans, whatever they change their name to

That would be really confusing when 10 years from now, someone asks "who scored the most of in a game in Charlotte Hornets history" and the answer could be two different things. I'd think you would have to include any record by the Hornets 88-02 and Bobcats 04-2015 or whatever.

maybe what i would do is put the hornets record (only if happened while team was in charlotte) in parenthesis if greater/worse than current bobcats record. less confusing, but still fun.

Well the Cleveland Browns still consider records before they left for Baltimore, and that is pretty much the only close scenario to us. And I do think if New Orleans changes their name we will take the name back.

Return to Charlotte Hornets
