Michael Finley?

Post#1 » by chube » Sat Nov 24, 2012 5:35 pm

Throwin' this out there to see what the board thinks. According to various reports (including the Real GM wiretap), Michael Finley wants to make a comeback. He'll be 40 in March, but if he's in good enough shape, he might be worth a look. What have many said this Pacers team needs? A sharp-shooter to come off the bench, a Kyle Korver/Steve Novak-esque player, who can come in and hopefully shoot us back into games.

We wouldn't require much of him, just a few minutes a night, but a sharp-shooter off the bench might be useful to us, especially until Granger comes back off the shelf. Release Ben Hansbrough and let's be honest, aside from a rare sighting last night against the Spurs, there haven't been many DJ Augustin sightings this season yet. Let Lance slowly but surely take over DJ's minutes once Granger comes back, Vogel can do his usual ride-with-what-works rotation of Young and Green at the backup wings, and let Finley come in for spurts of a few minutes at a time to shoot for us.

We signed B-Hans in the first place as an emergency point guard if George Hill was slow to start the season. Hill is fine. So we have 4 point guards and a gluttony of backup wing players, but none who are consistent and none who are spot-up shooters. Finley could...COULD...become that guy. Plus, he's a level-headed veteran for the locker room.

A main reason I bring this up is because many people have thrown out names like Michael Redd in the past. While I agree, Redd could be very useful, Finley may be a little older but doesn't have the injury history Redd does.

Does Finley provide that much more than B Hans?

Fair point. I'm mainly thinking in terms of a pure shooter which we don't have right now, especially until Danny comes back.

I'd rather have the "younger" ones in Michael Redd or Q-Rich.

Not even remotely interested. Someone way younger/better can probably be had.

^^ This.

Signing a Finley is a desperation move. A "lets hope for the best" type signing. Kevin Pritchard and Donnie Walsh need to earn their paychecks and figure out exactly what this team needs and try to acquire it.
