Who wins MVP?

Post#1 » by Mamba Mentality » Mon Nov 19, 2012 12:56 am

Matt Ice probably ruined his chances based on today. It was his award to lose heading into this week. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are picking up steam and ultimately I think it'll come down to either one of them.

Defensive players rarely ever win but JJ Watt is easily the most deserving, but you could also make a strong case for Tim Jennings this season as well.

I had Harvin as the frontrunner at the end of week 6, but the Vikes have struggled a little and injuries have ruined his chances. It would be awesome to see him win it though since a WR has never won the award.

Brady-Rodgers-Manning - toss up

Honestly though, if the saints make the playoffs, I have no problem giving it to brees

Also, Tim Jennings is not winning MVP. He doesn't have a "strong case"

My vote goes to Manning, but you can't go wrong with Rodgers or Brady. Hell even Brees has played his way into the discussion with how hot the Saints have been recently.

It's Peyton's to lose at this point in the season. I think JJ Watt truly deserves it, but he'll have to settle for DPOY.

If Adrian Peterson can keep up this torrid pace and the Vikings get a wildcard spot, considering that the season will end on about the day one year ago he tore his ACL, MCL, etc, and there are no other clear front-runners.. it has to be him.

I'm a homer so I expect Ryan to bounce back and get back into MVP contention

It is Mannings to lose at this point, but there is still a ton of football to be played.

So, Peyton Manning being out for all of 2011 and then switching teams isn't worthy of an MVP?

Also consider he has no one even close to his caliber of talent on his offense.

Right now it's got to be Manning in front. He was basically Denver's only major addition and he's taken them from a borderline playoff team to a true contender.

At the moment, I'd rank them Peyton-Brady-Brees-Watt-Peterson

Manning is easily the frontrunner right now. Only spoiler is if the Broncos cool down on the way to just 10 or 11 wins, and the Pats/Packers dominate on the way to 12 or 13

Semi-OT, but has any team ever had the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in the same year? Because it looks like Peyton has the inside track on MVP and Von Miller is a legitimate DPOY contender as well.

I'm not trying to discredit what Manning has done but Adrian Peterson's comeback was more impressive than his; he tore his ACL and MCL during the last week of the season, Manning did have neck surgery but had all of last season and offseason to recover. It took AP 7 months to come back from a 10 month injury, even the doctors said that it was inhumane. Not to mention it's much harder for a RB to come back from a knee injury than it is for a QB to come back from a neck injury. I'm a homer for Matt Ryan but if AP keeps this up and leads Minnesota to the playoffs then I'd also cast my vote for AP

No it's not.

Like the post above said
1) AP came back from the worst knee injury in 7 months, Peyton had been off for a year and a half
2) Peyton Manning is a sitting duck of a QB.. the only injury that would be as impressive to come back from is a devastating throwing shoulder injury compared to Adrian Peterson being a RB and his injury directly affected his most important weapon, his legs

I'm not sure how well someone recovered from an injury should have anything to do with MVP. The award is most valuable player, not best storyline.

Because there are so many success stories of QBs having 3 neck surgeries, having fused vertebrae, and coming back to be the best in the game? Because I'll show you 100 RBs with torn ACLs that come back to play well.

I wanted to give it to JJ Watt, but the Houston defense has really slowed down as of late and it makes it that much harder for a defensive player to get it.

With that said, if Matt Ryan gets 5000 yards and 30 TDs, (along with Atlanta's record) then I think he will run away with the MVP, especially since the media is in the tank for Matt Ryan.

Aldon Smith should also be put into the discussion, he is having a much better year than J.J. Watt, and the 49ers' defense is much better than Houston's defense, but i don't think either defensive player is going to get MVP this year. neither of them are having the same year that LT had (or even 2000 Ray Lewis who didn't even win MVP)

it will come down to Ryan and Manning, and since both guys have great numbers, the tie breaker for me goes to they guy on the team who has the best record.
